ABC has officially placed an order for a reboot of the hit medical comedy Scrubs, which will bring back several of the original cast members for an entirely new season slated for the 2025–2026 television schedule.
Zach Braff (J.D.), Donald Faison (Turk), and Sarah Chalke (Elliot) will all return to reprise their original characters. Additionally, all three actors will also serve as executive producers for the reboot, which gives each of them a substantial creative role behind the scenes.
The show's creator Bill Lawrence also will return as an executive producer and Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra have been named co-showrunners. The reboot will air on ABC as well as stream on Hulu.
This will be the first new season of Scrubs since its finale aired in 2010. The reboot is part of ABC's attempt to reboot classic shows that appeal to both old and new fans of similar properties.
The announcement came after years of reunion chatter and increased fan interest, particularly after the cast had a reunion pod and some public appearances together in past years.
Production details and anticipated release dates will come shortly.

New Direction for a Beloved Medical Comedy
The reboot will want to keep aspects of the character development familiar in J.D. and Turk as they relate to a new group of interns at Sacred Heart Hospital, but it will also have moments of absurd and clever humor about what is happening today in the medical world.
Partnering the old with the new also lets the show reach out to long-time fans while still giving low-level new viewers something to coalesce to. ABC is reportedly, also hoping that while this new version will feel new and fresh, it will still retain the essence of what made Scrubs what it was.
At this time, no other cast members have been confirmed for reunion but there still may be time to announce more. Supporting cast of interns may help bring new story lines and a new energy to the hospital experience.
The creative team has mentioned that while yes - a reunion, is part of the promotion for the show, this is not a reunion, a reboot or a rebooted nostalgia, but continuation, and on-going-ness of the original Scrubs story.
It's their hope to reinstate the original cast with many new faces, to make its impact on broadcast TV and streaming platforms in a way that it deserves.
