Housefull 5, a silly Bollywood romp, has just crossed the ₹175 crore mark in India – or, about $21 million. In about two weeks, Akshay Kumar's latest comedic endeavor has turned into a certified blockbuster, selling tons of tickets. Audiences are flocking to see it, even if critics are less than impressed. (One outlet pointed out it's “critically panned” but doing gangbusters at the box office) Now, trade analysts have deemed Housefull 5 a commercial success which essentially means it has made more than its budget back. In simple terms: no matter the reviews, people are still laughing straight to the bank.
Housefull 5 is the fifth installment of the Housefull comedy film series (the Bollywood equivalent of running long comedy sitcom on the big screen). Tarun Mansukhani directed the film, and it was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. Housefull 5 features an ensemble that includes Akshay Kumar who is part of a large group of comedic talent – Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt,
Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez, and others – all of them are in on the joke. A fun twist is the fact that two versions of the film were released (Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B), each version contained a slightly different ending. It was like buy a gadget that came in two configurations randomly - and fans talked about which finale they had seen!
The box office numbers were released fast. Housefull 5 released on June 6, 2025 in India across approximately 5,000 screens and it earned a significant amount of money right off the bat. It passed the ₹100 crore mark in just four days a record turnaround. By the end of the first week, it had earned approximately ₹127 crore in India. In its second week, it continued to earn (an approximate ₹37.5 crore more), and by about day 13 the total was approximately ₹165–175 crore. To put that in context, it is one of the biggest openings in 2025 so far for an Akshay Kumar comedy. The film's success only shows that audiences wanted this brand of slapstick, blockbuster entertainment.
All of these numbers mean it’s officially a hit, bollywood style. with ₹175 crore in India (and over ₹220 crore worldwide), the film is clearly in “commercial success” weeds. Industry trackers have already registered Housefull 5 on the books as, at worst, “semi-hit” to “clean hit.” That’s trade for “it hit its ₹225 crore production budget and more.” Note that the film did really well, when the comparable competition in the international market was also extremely strong. For example, Housefull 5 was screening in India with strong competing storytelling running with two animated films (DreamWorks' Ballerina - also called Pinafore - and How to Train your Dragon) and it pulled in more viewer numbers than the animated films. In summary, this summer comedic film is making waves, good ones. For all the US fans wondering when they will be able to screen this, it is Timered for Prime video a few weeks after theaters - later July to beginning August 2025. So you won't have to wait long to get all those gagging adventures back at home.
Conclusion
Housefull 5 has shown that the comedy genre runs the Indian box office and has amassed over ₹175 crore on the domestic front, therefore, Akshay Kumar and co-star cast have delivered a hit movie and lots of entertainment to people even with mixed reviews. The movie had a unique two-ending format (5A and 5B) that generated buzz and repeat business and it has been most discussed Hindi film in 2025. As Housefull 5 enters the streaming platforms, it continues to bask in commercial glory - and maybe we'll see Housefull 6 down the line if the audience wants more.
