Ed Sheeran has unveiled the official music video for his new song "Drive," the lead single from the soundtrack of the upcoming F1 movie.

The song has well-known artists John Mayer and Dave Grohl joined him. The song drops just before the re-leased of the movie which is June 27, 2025. The video offers quick cuts of the movie with performance cuts of Ed and his band showing the energy and pace of the film.

"Drive" is a change for Sheeran, since he is known for being more on the acoustic-pop side. We can see him leaning into rock in "Drive" with big guitar riffs and hard drums, which Sheeran describes as perfect for the fast pace of the Formula 1 world.

The song perfectly embodies the movie, which will star Brad Pitt in a storyline about a former driver returning to a race.

The video depicts Sheeran performing with the band in a trackside location with cutaways from the film. It combines the intensity of the racing processional with the performing band, creating an awesome visual video that reflects the excitement of professional racing.

The live instruments and racing video clips create an emphasis of the relationship between the music and the racing format of this movie.

“Drive” is more than just a new song by Ed Sheeran; it is also a collaboration with many top names in the music industry. The track was co-produced by John Mayer and Blake Slatkin, with Mayer providing lead guitar as well. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters played drums for the song, while Pino Palladino and Rami Jaffee played bass and keyboard, respectively.

"Sheeran described the writing of the song as simple and instinctive, saying it was a "rock driving song" developed to reflect the pace of Formula 1 and the high-adrenaline feeling associated with it. He mentioned that the team didn't overthink the song and that it came together quickly in the studio with the common theory of capturing the feel and vibe of the movie."

This song is the first official preview of F1 The Album which calls itself the official soundtrack for the film, and will feature a slate of international artists including Tate McRae, ROSÉ, Don Toliver, Tiësto, and Chris Stapleton, also being released the same day as the film. As Sheeran said, they wanted to put together people in a team to make music just as exciting as the sport.

The F1 film is one of the most anticipated releases of the summer and one of the anticipated movies of the summer for both racing fans and music fans thirsty for the star-studded soundtrack. With "Drive," Sheeran gives audiences a taste of what to expect: music that captures the speed, danger and excitement of Formula 1.
