Ezra Miller, who played parts in The Flash and Fantastic Beasts, has begun publicly resurfacing after a time burdened by legal and personal troubles.
Following a near two-year absence from public appearances, of all places, Miller made a surprise appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival supporting their former collaborator director Lynne Ramsay - with whom Miller worked on the 2011 film We Need to Talk About Kevin.
Ramsay is about to direct Miller in a new film about vampires, which Miller will also co-write. This will be Miller's first confirmed role since The Flash was released in 2023.
Speaking about their return, Miller said they have spent the last few years out of the public eye working on themselves and their creative work. They also referred to being alone as a part of their beneficial time.
In late June, Miller was also sighted at the filming Italy piggyback festival. These high-profile yet understated appearances are very encouraging signs regarding the continuing attempt to reestablish a presence in the film industry and in front of moviegoers. The apparent slow-roll out of the process of re-entry may suggest that Miller is tentatively re-entering this space in an effort to reestablish confidence and safety after all of the turmoil he created.
Over the span of two years from 2020 to 2021, Miller experienced a noticeable number of legal issues that drew considerable global media coverage and talk.
According to media reports they arrested in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment and were charged with burglary in Vermont. They reportedly behaved inappropriately with a minor. Although some charges were dropped and other charges were negotiated into a plea deal it raises obvious inquiries into Miller's behavior and mental health.
The public's reaction to Miller's return so far has been mixed. Some fans have expressed support for their recovery; meanwhile, just as many other members of the public have expressed caution and doubt due to the severity of the allegations against Miller in the past.
Regardless, Miller's behavior in the past few months suggests that they are attempting to move forward in a more responsible fashion.
It is yet to be determined how the public and the industry responds to their next film project, but for the time being, Miller's behavior demonstrates that they would like to rebuild their career in a more conscientious and level-headed manner.
