Vin Diesel has announced that the eleventh movie in the Fast & Furious series is set to come out in April 2027. He spoke to fans—at a recent FuelFest appearance in Pomona, California—about the upcoming eleventh film, explaining that it will be the last in the franchise, and also teased a big surprise: the return of Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Conner.

Paul Walker, who tragically died in a car accident in 2013, was instrumental in building the Fast & Furious series right from its start. We last saw his character in Furious 7. The film had used visual effects, along with the help of Walker's brothers, Cody and Caleb, to complete his scenes in the film after his tragic passing.  Since then, Brian O'Conner has been mentioned from time to time, but has not appeared on screen.

The upcoming final Fast & Furious film will be a journey back to its origins, not just a conclusion, as confirmed by Vin Diesel. He stated that the movie will once again be set in Los Angeles, the home of the 2001 original, and will bring back the beloved street racing culture that was foundational to the series. Diesel stated these were his personal conditions for the final film, along with the goal of an emotional reunion of Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner.

While Diesel did not disclose exactly how Brian will be brought back, his comments suggest filmmakers are trying to bring him back in a respectful and meaningful way.

What We Know About The Final Film

The news has produced a large spectrum of reactions from fans, many of whom have followed the franchise for over 20 years. The main films numbering ten and various spin-offs, Fast & Furious has grown into one of the highest grossing franchises of all time. There will be an emotional element to this excitement considering there is potential to see Brian again, especially in the last chapter.

Here is what we know so far:

  • Release Date: Fast & Furious 11 will be released in April 2027
  • Setting: The movie will return to Los Angeles, the original setting of the movies.
  • Tone & Style: It will focus more on car culture and street racing, versus the large-scale globe-trotting action of the more recent films.
  • Paul Walker's Character: Brian O'Conner will be back in some form, using CGI or with help from Walker's family from now to when it is released. However nothing is set in stone yet.
  • Diesel's message was clear: This is intended to wrap it all back together, not just action-wise, but emotionally as well. For Diesel to meet up with Brian would be a fitting tribute to Walker and a nod to the role he played in globalizing the franchise.

The message from Diesel was clear: this film was designed to complete the story arc, not only through action, but also emotionally. To bring together Dom and Brian, even for a moment, would be an homage to Walker and the part he played in making the franchise a global phenomenon.

Diesel said nothing about production time or casting details but has made it clear that the story is being crafted with care in order to end on good terms for both the franchise and with the franchise’s most loved characters.

As fans await more news, the probability of taking one last ride with the possible return of Paul Walker’s character has already made Fast & Furious 11 one of the most anticipated movies in the coming years.
