Heartbreaking: Kate Beckinsale’s Mom Dies in Her Arms at 78

Kate Beckinsale, British actress, has confirmed the death of her mother, Judy Loe, following her battle with stage 4 cancer. The 78-year-old died in Beckinsale's arms on July 15, 2025.

In an Instagram post where she shared her deepest feelings on July 17 Beckinsale wrote about her heartache on losing her mother, "the compass of my life" and "my dearest friend," adding that she felt now was the right time to say something because she knew the death certificate would soon be public and wanted to share the news on her terms.

"She died in my arms on the night of July 15 after tremendous suffering," Beckinsale wrote. "I am paralyzed. My mother was the love of my life. Never has a day gone by that I didn't need her."

During the past several months, Beckinsale had started to share her mother's health battle on social media, including an emotional video earlier in July of her singing to her mother at the hospital, a moment that resonated with followers across the globe. In February, she asked her followers for support and prayers, referring to her mother as a miracle and saying that she had "no enemies, only friends."

Judy Loe's Impact in Acting and Family

Judy Loe was an accomplished British television and theatre actress over several decades dating back to the 1970s. She acted in many television series such as General Hospital, Casualty and The Chief, as well as making appearances in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. The last performance of Judy Loe was in the 2024 Netflix series Fool Me Once. The very well received performance could almost put tears in your eyes knowing that it would be her last performance ever. 

Judy was more than an actress; she was a mother, wife and a mentor. After the unexpected passing of Kate Beckinsale father actor Richard Beckinsale, Judy raised Kate Beckinsale for the most part on her own, with Kate only being 5 years old at the time. Her husband Roy Battersby, the director, passed in January 2024.
