Once again, opening up a can of worms was filmmaker James Gunn, who set some social media buzz in motion when he mentioned Adria Arjona as someone who I thought "would be a great Wonder Woman" during a recent interview though he went on to say that nothing had been officially set for casting yet. Gunn, one of the co-chairs of DC Studios, also mentioned how he had followed the actress on social media and thought there was a "50/50 chance" she would be in the mix, but that is just one man's opinion, and far from confirmation. Nonetheless, news of his comments went viral on social media and was the topic of entertainment media articles.
In recent years, Adria Arjona has been recognized for her work in multiple projects, including the Disney+ show Andor, Netflix's Hit Man, and Amazon Prime's Good Omens series. Further, as a result of these and other performances, she has often been lauded for her intensity and range, leading some to conclude that she may be a good candidate for the role of Diana Prince.
The new Wonder Woman project is said to be in its early stages of development. There is a script being written and casting and a director have not been announced. Regardless, Gunn's throwaway comment has given opportunity to continued speculation and interest in Arjona as a prospective lead in one of DC's beloved icons.
Gunn's remark swiftly circulated throughout social networks where fans were sharing their excitement
and support. Fans were posting fan art, praising her acting ability, and declaring their support on social media networks like Reddit, X (formerly twitter), and Instagram. Additionally, some mentioned how fitting she would be for the character, both in looks and performance.
James Gunn says Adria Arjona would be "a great Wonder Woman" but that is not why he’s following her on social media:

"She was in a movie that I made seven years ago. I followed her then, I didn't just follow her."

One of the pieces of fan art that went viral already, showed Arjona in a Wonder Woman costume and ramped up the chatter. Numerous users proclaimed she looked perfect for the part and could not hope Gunn would consider her.
'The actress is already responding to the noise. During a red carpet event in Mexico City for Minecraft: The Movie, Arjona was asked about the growing support. She laughed and told fans, "write about it," and to help her get the role. Although she didn't confirm any conversation with DC Studios, her comments made it clear she would be interested.
Right now, DC has not put forth a release or casting announcement for the next Wonder Woman movie. Still, James Gunn is steering the new DC Universe, and maybe that means fan influence will have impact now more than ever. But whatever happens with Arjona, the traction has clearly demonstrated audiences are curious about what DC will do with the character next.'
