James McAvoy Attacked by Stranger at Toronto Bar

In the early morning hours of September 8, 2025, actor James McAvoy was assaulted by a complete stranger at Charlotte's Room, a bar in Toronto. McAvoy was in town to promote his directorial debut, California Schemin', at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) when the assault occurred, just before midnight while hanging out with the producers of the film.

According to reports, it was a very intoxicated man who was being escorted from the venue by staff when for no apparent reason he turned and punched McAvoy, who hadn't even interacted with the man at all up to that point. Witnesses stated it was a random and totally unexpected assault on McAvoy. There is little doubt it was unexpected by both McAvoy and the man. Luckily bar staff together with some people nearby quickly got control of the incident and as a result, nothing worse occurred.

James McAvoy Stayed at Toronto Bar After Attack

Although most individuals might have left the bar immediately after such a situation, James McAvoy chose to stay. Reports say he was in a good mood, having a laugh with people in the bar and carrying on his evening as if nothing happened.
