Sydney, August 14, 2025 — Netflix’s popular series Wednesday brought its spooky charm to Australia today, and fans in Sydney got much more than they expected.
On Thursday morning, Cockatoo Island (also called Wareamah) was turned into a dark and stylish stage for the “Outcast Assembly” event — the final stop of Netflix’s global “Doom Tour” for Wednesday Season 2. Stars Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams) and Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair) appeared alongside director Tim Burton and show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to talk about the upcoming episodes.
But the biggest moment came when Gwendoline Christie appeared in full costume as Larissa Weems, the headmistress of Nevermore Academy. In Season 1, Weems was believed to be dead after being poisoned. Seeing her return shocked both the live audience and millions watching online.
Christie even jokingly addressed the crowd, in character, saying,
"Did you honestly think Nevermore was going to let me go that easy? I was never gone. You just stopped looking."
The fans squealed and clapped and promptly began posting the news, causing "Larissa Weems" to trend globally in minutes.

For Netflix, this was not simply a press event - it was a fan festival - that the platform announced Schwab, under the title:
"A special one-night event at the same location called "Wednesday Island" on August 16 to the general public.
Fans in attendance will enable them to go through different interactive spaces in homage to the show, which include;
- The Doll House - a replica room of Wednesday and Enid's dorm room.
- The Raven's Passage - a dark, mysterious tunnel-like path.
- The Dead Lounge - a creepy but fun hangout space.
- Decay Cabaret - a gothic performance area.
- Most Grave Surprise - a mystery destination Netflix is keeping a secret'.
The Show’s Streaming Success

Why This Matters for Fans
This event showcased how Wednesday has evolved beyond a series on our streaming platform, and become a global phenomenon. Watching episodes is now just the tip of the iceberg, with Netflix developing experiences to make fans feel they are truly stepping into "Wednesday."
Bringing the likes of Jenna Ortega and Gwendoline Christie to Australia, also allowed many fans here a unique opportunity to participate in something that is usually an experience just in the US or Europe.
For many who attended the Sydney event, they will remember it as the day the dead came back to life - and Wednesday became strangely darker.
