Published: April 13, 2026 There are moments in music that you simply cannot plan. No stage director writes them. No PR team engineers them. They just happen — raw, real, and so deeply human that the only honest response is to cry.

That is exactly what happened at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai on the night of April 12, 2026, when Punjabi superstar Karan Aujla stopped everything at his massive Mumbai 2.0 concert and paid tribute to the legendary Asha Bhosle — who had passed away just hours earlier.

On those giant concert screens, a video began to play. It showed Asha Bhosle Ji performing Karan Aujla's iconic track "Tauba Tauba" at a concert in Dubai back in December 2024. She was 91 years old in that video. She was dressed in a white saree. And she was absolutely smiling, glowing, and even doing the famous hook steps from the song — the same moves that Vicky Kaushal made famous on screen.

The crowd at Mahalaxmi went completely silent for a moment. Then came the applause. Then came the tears.

This is the full story of that moment, what it means, who these two artists are, and why a video from December 2024 broke the internet all over again on April 13, 2026.

Asha Bhosle Passes Away at 92 — India Loses A Voice That Lived in Every Home

Before we talk about the concert, you need to understand what happened earlier that same day.

Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92, due to multi-organ failure following a severe chest infection. She was at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital.

She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on April 11 due to exhaustion and a pulmonary chest infection. Doctor Prateet Samdani later confirmed that the veteran singer had been dealing with multiple health issues and died due to organ failure.

Her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had confirmed that she had been battling a chest infection and extreme exhaustion. Her last rites were to be held the following day at Shivaji Park in the evening, where fans and members of the film industry were expected to gather.

Her son, Anand Bhosle, told reporters: "My mother passed away today. Her last rites will be held tomorrow at Shivaji Park in Mumbai." Bhosle had recorded more than 12,000 songs in multiple Indian languages over a seven-decade career. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was "deeply saddened" by her death. Indian President Droupadi Murmu said her death is "an irreparable loss to music lovers."

Think about that for a second. 12,000 songs. Seven decades. A voice that sang everything from classical to jazz to disco to, yes, a Gen-Z Punjabi party anthem called Tauba Tauba.

In 2011, the Guinness Book of World Records recognised Asha Bhosle as the most-recorded artist in music history.

That is who India lost on April 12, 2026. And that is who Karan Aujla chose to honour that same night — in the most unexpected, most beautiful way possible.

What Happened at the Mumbai 2.0 Concert — The Moment That Made Everyone Cry

The Night, the Venue, and the Emotional Weight of April 12

The Mumbai 2.0 show was held at Mahalaxmi Racecourse and was part of the P-Pop Culture India Tour, drawing a massive audience keen to watch a more energetic and polished set from the Punjabi singer.

On stage, Aujla made sure the spotlight stayed firmly on him. Performing chartbusters like Tauba Tauba, Boyfriend, On Top, and Wavy, he kept the crowd hooked from start to finish. The energy was unmatched, with fans singing along and matching every beat. One of the most emotional moments of the night came when Aujla paused to pay tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle, whose passing on the same day left the industry in mourning.

Why Asha Bhosle's Tauba Tauba Performance Meant So Much to Karan Aujla

Go back to late 2024. "Tauba Tauba" from the movie Bad Newz was already a monster hit. Karan Aujla wrote and sang it as a young artist from a small village with zero music training or instruments at home. Then, out of nowhere, the 91-year-old queen of playback singing – Asha Bhosle herself – performed it live in Dubai. She sang every word perfectly and danced the hook step like a pro. Videos went viral instantly.

Karan shared his feelings back then on social media. He called her "the living Goddess of music" and said the moment inspired him deeply. A kid from nowhere seeing a legend sing his words? It was pure magic. By April 2026, that same clip became the perfect way to say goodbye. Playing it at the concert wasn't just nice – it felt like a full-circle thank you from one artist to another.
