Kelly Osbourne – a well-known reality TV personality and daughter of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne – is sharing her experiences with body image, motherhood, and having her own voice outside of her family name.
At a wellness summit in Los Angeles recently, Osbourne discussed how public response to her weight has generally been more intense than responses to greater struggles in her life, like addiction. Osbourne considered how society can be “fat-phobic,” particularly toward women in the public eye, and shared how the public tends to be less forgiving of weight gain than they are of many personal struggles.
Osbourne shared that her journey to feeling healthy and confident wasn’t easy, and she tried various methods of managing her weight over the years, including weight-loss surgery and other drugs, but until she worked on her mindset, none of that worked. For her, true transformation began when she was mentally ready to take control of her health.
Her comments come during a period of time when public figures continue to speak out against the damaging impact of unrealistic beauty standards in society and how celebs are pressured to look a certain way. Her truthfulness adds to the dialogue that health encompasses more than just how we look, physical transformation and mental well-being are intertwined.
Osbourne also discussed how motherhood has transformed her life. She welcomed her son Sidney in 2022 with her partner, Sid Wilson (of the band Slipknot), and stated her priorities have changed rapidly in the last year, and motherhood also gave her a new sense of purpose she never previously had. Osbourne has spoken about the ups and downs of parenting in interviews, and acknowledged how difficult it is to travel with her toddler, calling it a "scary situation" because "kids can be wildcards, and especially taking a flight." Overall, Osbourne noted that her son usually does better than expected, and is appreciative of her time spent with him.
Osbourne also described a special bond forming between her son and her father, Ozzy. Despite his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease, Ozzy enjoys quiet time with Sidney, often watching cartoons together before bedtime. Kelly says those moments have brought a new kind of happiness to her family.
After years of being known mainly as Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter, Kelly is stepping more confidently into her own identity. While she’s proud of her family, she wants to be recognized for her own achievements and voice. Through her advocacy, honesty, and now motherhood, Osbourne is showing the public a fuller picture of who she is—beyond the headlines and beyond the name.
