MasterChef Australia has created another product available to buy from your local supermarket from a chefs dish. The unique challenge for this season was creating a winter ice cream that could sold at Coles across Australia.

The winning ice cream flavor was created by returning contestant Laura Sharrad. Laura's flavor was Sticky Date Pudding served with a rich butterscotch sauce. When they were judged on the best dessert, Laura was victorious for embracing a creative concept, dessert taste, and commerciality.

Laura's dish included nine inventive interpretations including the pineapple caramel, and pickled pineapple, and plenty of textures for the judges to pour over. Poh Ling Yeow the guest judge that night stated the ice cream was "decadent and silky," while Curtis Stone praised the concept and execution calling it unique, and judge Andy Allen praised the dessert not only in front of Laura but for rank ordering it as the Best thing (of any kind) Laura made.

Laura reported after her winning performance while it felt "surreal"...Laura added that some chefs spend years trying to secure shelf space in supermarkets! Laura's flavor will be available in Coles supermarkets around our great land starting June 26 for $8 a tub, but it has to be for a limited time, so better be quick if you want to capture a tub while supplies last.

This collaboration is part of an ongoing partnership between Coles and MasterChef Australia, which has seen other products inspired by the show land in supermarkets. Over the years, Coles has carried sauces, marinades, and dressings made by previous contestants. This time though, desserts are front and center, with ice cream being chosen as the main product for the season.

For Laura, this could potentially lead to added product development. She also gave a small hint towards the fact she is interested in creating other food products, perhaps expanding into a larger line of ready-made desserts or other products.

For Coles, the co-branding opportunity with MasterChef allows for the introduction of exciting new products onto its shelves while still being part of one of Australia’s most watched television franchises. For viewers, it provides an opportunity to taste something they have seen made on screen. This connects the entertainment component of the show to the everyday grocery shopping touchpoint.

Customers wanting to try the Sticky Date Pudding ice cream are advised to get to Coles soon, as it will only be available for a limited time. With the enthusiastic fans of MasterChef from the last inscription and loyal following of Laura, there will likely be few left on shelves by then.
