Netflix is adding a new romantic comedy with somewhat of a twist to its slate. Titled Just Picture It, the film stars Millie Bobby Brown and Gabriel LaBelle in leading roles. The plot follows two college students who start receiving digitally altered images, depicting them together in a future they never envisioned - married, with kids, and living a life they have never even planned! The twist? They haven't even met yet!

This film features a new direction for Millie Bobby Brown, who has become a household name through immensely successful programs such as Stranger Things and films like Enola Holmes. While she has a strong roster of roles portraying empowered, independent characters, Brown now has an opportunity to step into romance comedy for the first time with Just Picture It, which is being produced by Brown’s own production company, PCMA Productions, in association with her dad, Robert Brown. Brown's forays into producing point to her increasing desire to be involved in the process of creating the kinds of projects she directs.

Gabriel LaBelle, who gained notoriety for his performance in Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans, will star alongside Brown. LaBelle's role gives him an opportunity to work on executing a different type of acting, and adding emotional grounds and relatability to the genre.

A Sci-Fi Spin on a Classic Love Story

Directed by Lee Toland Krieger—who directed The Age of Adaline and the series You on Netflix—Just Picture It adds a sci-fi element to a rom-com genre. Jesse Lasky is the writer and making his feature film debut.

Behind the scenes, Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum from RK Films are among the producers, and both have a strong track record of creating hit movies. The executive producer team includes Jake Bongiovi (who is married to Millie Bobby Brown), Alyssa Altman, Isobel Roberts, and David Kern.

While the romantic comedy genre can often feel familiar, this story takes a different direction by asking a larger question: If you saw your future with someone you haven't even met yet, would you go after that relationship? The film embraces that mystery, telling both comedic and heartfelt moments that are less about what the two main characters are feeling in the present and more about what the future is trying to convey to them.

There's no date set for Just Picture It to be released as of yet, but it is officially announced and in development. Netflix have not confirmed if filming has begun yet but excitement is growing amongst fans and industry followers alike.

What Makes This Project Unique

Creative risk isn't new to Millie Bobby Brown. Whether playing Eleven in the blockbuster Stranger Things, as the lead in Damsel or Enola Holmes in Enola Holmes, her choices—as observed personally and in her fiction—have always included characters of growth and character independence. With Just Picture It, not only is she changing gears, she will be bringing audiences along for a more grounded human emotional experience. The film blends emotions across a love story, a comedy and a sprinkle of science fiction.

For Gabriel Labelle, this another step in what appears to be a very thoughtful career. After all the critical success of The Fabelmans, being the male lead in a more conventional romantic comedy and being considered mainstream takes Gabriel to new audiences.

Just Picture It is shaping up to be a title worth watching when Netflix rolls out even more original films. It has an appealing cast, a talented creative team, and a promising premise, which suggests that viewers who crave something new with some of the familiarity of past films may tune in.

We expect to see more information, updates on casting, and release dates in the next month or two.
