The Next 007: A Whole New Mission
So, Daniel Craig's hung up his Walther PPK. After 15 years and five films, his run as James Bond ended with No Time to Die, leaving a massive hole in the secret agent world. And honestly, it's been a wild ride trying to figure out who's going to take over.
The Game's Afoot (and it’s 2026)
While we're all waiting with bated breath for the next movie, something pretty exciting happened. IO Interactive just dropped a trailer for their new James Bond video game, 007 First Light. This isn't some rehash; it's an origin story, showing a younger Bond, much like the Daniel Craig debut in Casino Royale.
It's set for release in 2026 on a bunch of platforms—Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. The big buzz? Everyone's convinced Patrick Gibson (from Dexter: New Blood) is playing 007. I'm not sure, but there is a striking resemblance! Check out the trailer online – the speculation is wild.
Movie Madness: Who’s Next?
The film franchise is a whole different ball game. Amazon MGM Studios now calls the shots, taking over from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. And that’s just… weird. This massive shift leaves a lot of questions unanswered. When will we see the next Bond film? No one knows. But the betting odds have a few favorites:
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson: He's currently the frontrunner, according to the bookies.
- Theo James: Not far behind, but he may need to wait till his tour for 28 Years Later finishes.
- Henry Cavill: A long shot, apparently.
- Tom Hardy: Endorsed by Pierce Brosnan himself, but still an underdog.
Even Pierce Brosnan, a Bond legend himself, is playing coy. While he thinks Tom Hardy would be “wonderful,” he's staying mum on his official pick. I get it. It’s a big decision.
The Director's Cut (or, What Could Have Been)
Danny Boyle, who famously dropped out of directing Bond 25, recently shared some insights into his scrapped script. It apparently involved a Russian villain and, get this, Bond’s death. Interesting choice... He felt it was a strong script, but the producers didn't feel the same way. It’s a real shame because he had a really good collaborator on this. We can only imagine what might have been!
What's Next?
Right now, it’s a big waiting game. The future of the franchise is up in the air, but I am still really hoping that this First Light game is an indicator of a great future for the franchise. The gaming industry is huge, and who knows, maybe that's where the next big Bond reveal will be. And that's where we are. It’s exciting to see how it plays out; it's exciting to see how it evolves. But it’s also scary, since so much is up in the air right now.
