Album explores love, connection, and personal growth

British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean has shared the details of her second studio album titled The Art of Loving which will release on September 26, 2025. The record is the follow up to her debut project Messy - the critically acclaimed first LP which earned Dean a nomination for the Mercury Prize, and the title of BBC Music Introducing's Artist of the Year in 2023.

Dean describes her new record as an in-depth exploration of what it is to love and to be loved, and draws part of its inspiration from Erich Fromm's book of the same name, and tackles different forms of love - whether it's love for another person, love between friends, or love for yourself.

The lead single "Nice To Each Other" which was released earlier this year has already started to generate buzz online. Nice To Each Other urges for kindness in relationships, while also emphasizing boundaries and space.  Nice To Each Other has proven to be a fan favorite and critic favorite; after only a few months of release, it has surpassed 1,000,000 streams, in addition to being featured on multiple high-profile playlists.

Speaking about the album, Dean explained that The Art of Loving has been her most authentic work to date. The songs are based on feelings she has experienced over the past year and reflect her journey. The writing process provided a chance for her to dive however deeply into feelings that are sometimes difficult to express, which she hopes will resonate with listeners.

Dean collaborated with a variety of contributors to develop the sonic aesthetics of the album. While she maintains a foundation in soul and pop, this new collection also has subtle new influences, and hopefully, they succumb to both warmth and depth.

Global tour includes special Sydney performance

In addition to the album release, Olivia Dean also announced a global tour that will run across the second half of 2025. The tour will feature headline shows, and festival performances across the UK, Europe, and North America.

One of the larger announcements this week was an added one-off show in Sydney, Australia, which is scheduled for November 2025. Dean's performance will mark her first headline show in Australia as a solo artist. Given her now emerging international profile, we expect tickets to sell out quickly.

Earlier this summer, Dean will be a special guest with Sam Fender and Sabrina Carpenter at Hyde Park, London.  Later in the fall, she will reunite with Carpenter for the U.S. leg of the Short ’n Sweet Tour at venues like Madison Square Garden.

Dean has built up a reputation for her emotional energy and connection with fans during her live shows. And now that her new album is approaching, fans will get to experience hearing her new songs for the first time live.

With it being clear that Dean's popularity is rising, she is viewed as nothing short of one of the most exciting new British female soloists today. The combination of her felt lyrics, luscious vocals and deep thought story-telling is allowing her to build a dedicated fanbase across the globe.
