Pedro Pascal, Natasha Lyonne, and Marvel Stars Attend Fantastic Four Premiere in Los Angeles
On Sunday, July 21, the cast of Marvel's new movie Fantastic Four: First Steps made a splash at the film's world premiere in Los Angeles. It was held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and made news because it was the first Disney premiere to be streamed live on Disney+, allowing fans around the world to tune in and watch as it happened.
The blue carpet event brought both new cast members and a handful of former stars from previous Fantastic Four films to celebrate together, making it a night of both excitement and nostalgia.
New Cast Introduced as Former Stars Show Support
Pedro Pascal sports Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach portrays Ben Grimm (The Thing) in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. The new film, which is set in a retro-future version of the 1960s kicks off Phase Six of Marvel.
Director Matt Shakman was joined by a range of cast members at the Premiere, namely Natasha Lyonne, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, Sarah Niles and Ralph Ineson, who will be playing Galactus, the villain.
There were also actors who appeared in previous Fantastic Four films. Some of which included Michael Chiklis who played The Thing in the 2005 film came to show support for the project. Additionally, actors Ioan Gruffudd, who played Reed Richards in the 2005 film and Doug Jones who played Silver Surfer in the 2007 film, also attended.
Chiklis spoke fondly of the reboot and said he is excited to check out the new version. Reports state that Moss-Bachrach, the new actor playing The Thing, even reached out to Chiklis to get advice on the role. There are reports that "It's clobberin' time" might be in the movie too!
Another memorable moment from the night was Pedro Pascal who was obviously teary-eyed. As he greeted fans and did photos with his fellow cast mates, attendees noticed he had a genuine moment reacting to the events of the night. Encouraging comments from his fellow cast mates and fans quickly made the moment a Twitter trend.
Film Set to Launch Marvel’s Phase Six
Fantastic Four: First Steps is slated to become part of your at-home movie collection on July 25, 2025. The film will feature another iteration of Marvel's superhero team confronting the force of Galactus once again, with the Silver Surfer returning to film anatomy as well. Julia Garner plays the Surfer in this new version.
Director Matt Shakman explained that there were a number of scenes cut from the film, including those with John Malkovich, who was to play the Red Ghost. Shakman indicated the decision process was hard to remove the scenes, but he believed it was important to consider the pacing and tone of the film.
Whether Pedro Pascals character will serve as a leading character in future Avengers movies led to some confusion recently. In a recent interview Pablo clarified that Mister Fantastic has a significant role in the MCU but would not be leading the team in Avengers: Doomsday. Although Marvel has suggested that the character may be more prominent in future stories.
The film premiere streamed live represents a new direction for Disney and Marvel and potentially a more global engagement with fans for subsequent launches. A replay of the full event is now available on Disney+.
According to two sources who were on hand for the film’s premiere, a secret post-credit scene screened only for the in-theater audience, and included a short hologram cameo of Doctor Doom — who has not yet been cast officially by Marvel.
Despite being less than 20 seconds of screen time, witnesses said the scene revealed a cloaked figure in the shadows relaying a message across the multiverse, which suggests that Doctor Doom, has made it clear that he is not from this version of Earth, which opens a door to possible cross-dimensional threats in Avengers: Secret Wars.
“It wasn’t just a tease — it felt like Marvel planting the first seed of a very different, multiversal Doom,” one attendee told our outlet.
Reed’s Suit, Surfer’s Powers, and Marvel’s Bold MCU Future
At the Fantastic Four: First Steps premiere, sharp-eyed fans noticed that Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards costume featured micro-layered technology woven into the arms and chest — a design choice not clearly visible in press photos or during the livestream.
This advanced suit detail has sparked speculation that Reed’s gear could involve time manipulation or multiversal travel, suggesting his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may go far beyond the Fantastic Four team.
Meanwhile, Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer raised eyebrows for a different reason: during parts of the film, she reportedly appears without the character’s iconic surfboard, leading fans to wonder if Marvel is reimagining her powers to include cosmic teleportation or a more abstract form of interstellar movement. These subtle but deliberate design choices seem to point toward deeper storytelling shifts within the MCU. Adding to the intrigue, a Marvel executive at the afterparty reportedly told guests,
“This is the first time Marvel has trusted a single film to set tone for both the past and future of the MCU.” That comment has fueled intense speculation that Fantastic Four may serve as the narrative bridge between past Marvel arcs and upcoming titles like Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, hinting that the film could be more foundational to Marvel’s future than initially expected.
