Aamir Khan is all set to return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, a sports drama that is opening in theaters on June 20, 2025. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, this story follows a basketball coach, who coaches a team of players with intellectual disabilities. The film should provide a uniquely uplifting experience about themes of resilience, teamwork, and inclusion!
The new film is inspired by the hit Spanish film Champions from 2022. Aamir Khan takes on the lead role, with Genelia Deshmukh as his co-lead. The story includes Darsheel Safary who is famous for his previous role in Taare Zameen Par, and features a total of 10 newcomers as the athletes.
Sitaare Zameen Par was filmed in Vadodora, Gujarat, and completed in mid-2024. The film is in post-production and has received a U/A 13+ rating from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). There were a few cut downs for the film including adding a quote from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Aamir met with the press and told them there are currently no plans for the film to stream, as it will be released exclusively in theaters.
Ahead of its theatrical launch, Sitaare Zameen Par has already generated significant interest. A special premiere was held on June 19, attended by several prominent film personalities including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rekha, and Vicky Kaushal. Aamir Khan arrived at the event with his wife Kiran Rao and their son Azad Rao.
Analysts of trade are projecting the film to see success at the box office, as early projections predict opening day collections of approximately ā¹12 crore. This movie is the first film in theaters for Aamir Khan in three years, since Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022.
The first impressions from the premiere have been mostly favorable. Users of social media are also praising the film with much interest, and positive evaluation for its earnest portrayal of events, and strong emotional performances.
