Netflix is set to premiere Stranger Things Season 5 in a total of 3 volumes:

• Volume 1: November 27, 2025
• Volume 2: December 26, 2025

Now the important finale episode: January 1, 2026

Each volume releases at exactly one month apart, with the finale marking the end of the beloved Hawkins saga and entitles "The Rightside Up", the episode will indeed be a two-hour affair.

Historic Theater Premiere For Stranger Things Finale

For the first time in its history, Netflix will release an episode of a series in cinemas around the same time as its streaming release. The Stranger Things Season 5 Episode 9 will be shown in more than 350 movie theaters in the United States and Canada starting on December 31, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. PT, when it goes live globally on Netflix.

The episode will have a theatrical release for the purpose of creating a collective experience of fandom, as co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer said. The Duffers expressed excitement about the experience of watching the finale in a theater with a group of friends, intertwined with a communal sense of sound, picture, and feeling.

What To Expect From Stranger Things Final Season

Taking place in the fall of 1987, the plot of the last season focuses on Hawkins continuing to recuperate from the havoc unleashed by the Upside Down. Our heroes face an extraordinary challenge: to find and defeat Vecna, a powerful enemy who has vanished without a trace.

To heighten the stakes, Hawkins has been put under military quarantine by the government and Eleven has entered hiding. The anniversary of Will's disappearance from the upside down is approaching and will likely bring even darker threats making this by far the most intense and suspenseful season yet.
