Super Troopers 3 Begins Filming After 7 Years – Cast Revealed

After much speculation and many fan requests, Super Troopers 3 is officially in production. Filming began this week, confirming that we will finally see a third film in the cult comedy series that has an off-kilter sense of humor and a quirky cast of highway patrol characters. 

The film will see the return of comedy group Broken Lizard who created and starred in the previous films. We will see Jay Chandrasekhar return as director and maintain the slapstick humor, inside jokes, and playful weirdness that endeared the franchise to its comedy fan base.

The Original Team Back Together

The backbone of the Super Troopers series was always about the camaraderie of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe. All five members—Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske—are back, both in front of the camera and behind it.

Joining them are two familiar faces from some of the past films:

• Brian Cox—it will be great to see him back as Captain John O'Hagen, the stern and yet fatherly leader of the squad.
• Marisa Coughlin—is back as Ursula Hanson. She was very important to the story in the first two films.

For long-time fans, this reunion guarantees the sequel will recapture the tone and spirit of the first production that audiences enveloped over 25 years ago.

• Nat Faxon, Academy Award-winning actor and writer, most well-known for The Descendants.
• Chace Crawford, recognizable with his role in The Boys as a younger, handsome version of the current cast members.
• Andrew Dismukes, who is a comedian and used to be on Saturday Night Live, is expected to introduce a fresh style of comedy.

This mix of old and new talent proves they are trying to blend nostalgia with a current style of comedy, and will appeal to existing fans as well as a new audience.

In the world of Hollywood comedy, the Super Troopers films have a very unique legacy.

When Will it be Released?

An official release date has not been set yet. However, since filming has begun in August 2025, industry insiders speculate that a late 2026 release is likely. Studios usually allot about year of time between filming, editing, and post-production, before a wide release. 

Until then, the production will probably release some behind the scenes elements to build up excitement for the troopers' next big screen adventure.

For fans of the franchise, this third one is more than comedy; it is the end of a journey that started as a grassroots campaign and turned into a lasting legacy.
