Who Is Todd Snider

Todd Snider is an American singer-songwriter, born on October 11, 1966, in Portland, Oregon. He has achieved great acclaim over the years in the Americana, folk, and alt-country music world as a singer-songwriter who writes heartfelt lyrics with tales that are often humorous and always emotional. Before achieving fame, Snider went by "the harmonica player” and sang in smaller venues. He was heavily influenced by songwriters such as Jerry Jeff Walker and John Prine. In the mid-1980s he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where early in his career, he started to perform at a club named the Daily Planet, where he was discovered by Keith Sykes of the Jimmy Buffett band, which propelled his career forward.

Snider has made an art-form of recording anti-albums, an album that mixes personal vulnerability and wit along with themes that are universal. He has recorded numerous albums that have been lauded throughout the years, including the Americana classic East Nashville Skyline, released in 2004, and the highly politicized album Peace Queer, released in 2008. Snider’s songwriting style has firmly established him as a torchbearer of the Americana family of music artists, in particular, influencing younger artists and maintaining a solid fan base throughout his long career.

What Health Issues Todd Snider Have

Todd Snider has been dealing with a significant health issue known as spinal stenosis, which is narrowing of the spaces in his spine that can put pressure on his spinal cord and nerves, causing him great pain. To mitigate the pain and suffering associated with the condition, Todd has had to significantly restrict his touring activities since 2022. Snider's lower back, neck and shoulders are affected by the stenosis, making it very painful for him, and removing his ability to perform in a regular manner. Although ultimately unsuccessful, Snider has seen specialists and chiropractors in attempts to manage his symptoms, but has continued to suffer from serious and debilitating pain for years. Despite the pain and suffering, Snider has tried to remain engaged creatively by continuing to write songs, paint and perform when able.

In addition to the physical pain of spinal stenosis, Todd Snider has also had to navigate some emotional pain in recent years when some of Todd's long time friends died, and some of his personal relationships were strained, which did effect Todd's more recent work. Snider's recent and ongoing health concerns, including spinal stenosis, have led him to contemplate what could be his final tour, at the age of 57, in 2025, since he is trying to "make peace" with his body.

High, Lonesome and Then Some: Album Release and Tour Impact [High Lonesome and Then Some Album]

On October 17, 2025, Todd Snider released his new blues-infused album "High, Lonesome and Then Some". This was his first new release since health issues allied with spinal stenosis temporarily derailed him from touring earlier in the summer. The release of this emotionally charged album was bittersweet amid the current symptoms of spinal stenosis. The potential for Todd to tour his new album this COVID-free fall season now becomes a major disappointment to die-hard fans and an overall loss to the live music experience.
