Pixar Announces Toy Story 5 for 2026 with Fresh Characters and a Heartfelt Plot
Pixar has officially announced that Toy Story 5 is set to arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026, bringing fans back into the world of Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the beloved toy gang.
This time, the story introduces a modern twist and explores how toys face challenges in a technology-driven world.
The movie will be directed by Andrew Stanton, known for hits like Finding Nemo, and McKenna Harris, making her feature directorial debut. Together, they aim to honor the spirit of the original films while also offering something fresh for a new generation.
Returning to the voice cast are Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. Joining them are new characters voiced by Conan O’Brien and Ernie Hudson.
One important new character is Lily Pad, a tablet-shaped gadget that becomes Bonnie’s favorite and makes the toys question their place in her life.
In this next chapter, Bonnie is now 8 years old. The story begins with Buzz stranded on a beach filled with identical Buzz toys, setting up a deeper look at identity and belonging. As Bonnie becomes increasingly focused on her high-tech gadget, the toys must find a new way to connect with her and remind her of the joy of imagination.
Pixar shared early footage and concept art at major festivals, including D23 and Annecy. The clips hint at a heartfelt and thought-provoking story that balances emotion, humor, and modern themes.
The film is also expected to celebrate Toy Story’s 30th anniversary, making it extra special for longtime fans.
Toy Story 5 will dive into big questions about change, relevance, and staying true to who you are.
It promises to be an emotional ride, just like the earlier films, but with a new message fit for today’s world.
