Netflix has confirmed the return of Wednesday for Season 2 with a split release on two dates in late 2025. The series stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, following the daughter of Morticia Addams and Gomez Addams during her time at Nevermore Academy. The two-part season will have the first four episodes of Part 1 released on August 6 and then the final four episodes of Part 2 released on September 3 for a total of eight episodes in the season.
The trailer was released on July 9 and gives the audience their first look at the new season. In the trailer, Wednesday sees a vision where her friend Enid faces danger. Thinking she could be the reason for the danger, Wednesday will stop at nothing to prevent it.
The lead cast role is held once again by Jenna Ortega, who returns this season as a producer. Netflix has teased Season 2 to take a darker tone, with more horror elements, along with a greater exploration of Wednesday's connections, particularly her family and friends.
Executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar stated that the second season will be much darker and complex. Expect new supernatural threats and mysterious happenings at Nevermore Academy, favorite characters to return, and A LOT of new characters.
The filming is taking place in Dublin, Ireland from May through December 2024. Tim Burton returns to direct, alongside Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson, who helped to create the first season and its unique style.
Wednesday's much-anticipated Season 2 is back, with its main cast members returning, and a long list of new additional cast members being added! The original cast are all back too. Returning are Catherine Zeta-Jones, who will reprise her role as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Emma Myers as Enid, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. Several other characters from Nevermore Academy will also return!
Among the biggest announcements is the inclusion of Lady Gaga, who will portray a teacher at Nevermore! Netflix announced her role at its global Tudum fan event. Other new members of the cast include Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Thandiwe Newton, Joanna Lumley, and Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in the original Addams Family movies!
According to the creators, the second season will continue to explore Wednesday's struggles with her identity, sense of belonging, and maintaining friendships, while at the same time she decides to explore a new mystery related to the visions that are haunting her. There will be a strong presence of her family, and it can be assumed the content will remain in the distinctive world of Nevermore.
Destinies, danger, and trust are likely going to play a prominent role in future plotting. Early reports suggest there could be new inspiration from classic gothic literature in line with Edger Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death.
With a strong creative team and a larger cast returning, Netflix is aiming high for the ambitions of Wednesday Season 2. For fans of the first season, expect Wednesday to be somewhat more mature, intense, and on edge with new predators and not only outside threats, but a new personal awareness to emotionally contend with.
