IO Interactive — the folks who made the Hitman games — just revealed a brand-new James Bond game called 007: First Light. It’s not your typical Bond story, though. This one’s all about a younger, less polished Bond, before he even gets the “00” title we know and love. The game was announced at Sony’s State of Play on June 4, 2025, and honestly, it’s got people pretty excited.
The trailer shows Bond as a bit of a loose cannon — smart and dangerous, but still figuring things out. And what’s interesting is, this version of Bond doesn’t look like any of the actors we’ve seen on screen. It’s a fresh take, and IO Interactive is building their own Bond world from scratch, which feels pretty cool.
What’s the Game About?
007: First Light takes place early in Bond’s career. He’s just left the Royal Navy and is training with MI6, trying to prove himself. The big mission here is to find a missing agent, 009. If Bond pulls it off, he earns the “00” license to kill and officially becomes the spy we know.
The gameplay seems to be a mix of stealth, fighting, and maybe even some charm or persuasion — kind of like how Hitman lets you choose your approach. The trailer shows some wild locations, from cold, icy places to tropical settings, so it looks like you’re going all over the world.

In 007 First Light, play as James Bond, a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless new recruit, and discover an origin story for the first time. An all-new game experience from @iointeractive, coming in 2026.

What Makes This Bond Different?
One of the coolest things about this game is how different this Bond is. IO Interactive didn’t just copy any actor from the movies. Instead, they made a new Bond who’s younger, more reckless, and maybe a little rough around the edges. This isn’t the calm, smooth spy you’re used to — it’s someone who’s still learning the ropes.
Here’s what you can expect:
-
An original story, not based on any movie or book
-
A Bond who’s still earning his stripes
-
Gameplay that lets you pick stealth, action, or talking your way out of trouble
-
Missions set in different countries, with varied environments
It’s a fresh spin that makes me curious about how it will play out.
When Can You Play It?
The game is set to release sometime in 2026. It’ll be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC, and even the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Plus, since it’s using the new Unreal Engine 5, it should look really great.
If you want to see more, IO Interactive is planning to share extra details at the Summer Game Fest on June 6, 2025. So, if you’re into Bond or spy games, this might be something to keep an eye on.
