The Elden Ring: Nightreign update finally came out, and yeah, there's a lot to unpack. One thing that really stood out is the new class they added — it’s called the Revenant. Now, I’ll be honest, it’s not the kind of class you’d pick if you're into heavy weapons or going in solo to wreck bosses. This one's built more for players who like to support their team and mess around with some cool magic stuff. And unlocking it? Kinda tricky, but definitely worth it if you’re into that playstyle.

Unlocking Revenant Takes a Few Steps

Okay, so here’s how it goes if you want to unlock Revenant. First, you’ve gotta beat a Nightlord during this thing called the Tricephalos Expedition. After you take that down, you head over to Roundtable Hold and talk to the Jar Merchant. He sells this relic called the Besmirched Frame. It costs 1,500 Murk — yeah, kind of expensive, but if you’ve been grinding, you probably have enough.

Now, small heads-up: sometimes that relic doesn’t even show up unless you’ve already unlocked the Duchess class. Not sure why, maybe it’s just a weird trigger in the game.

After you get the relic, you go to the east wing of Roundtable Hold and find this spooky little ghost figure near a painting. When you talk to it, it’ll teleport you to Limveld — which honestly feels like a trap, because suddenly you're facing this tough boss called the Night Idol, and she’s got three spirit minions fighting alongside her. The fight starts with you at level 6 and only three flasks, which, let’s be real, makes it brutal. But the good thing is, you can retry as many times as you need.

If (or when) you beat her, that’s it. You unlock the Revenant class. Not a super long questline, but challenging for sure.

What Playing as Revenant Feels Like

Now, if you’re wondering whether Revenant is even worth it — yeah, it kind of depends. I wouldn’t recommend it if you like charging into fights and doing all the damage. This class is really for people who like staying in the back, casting spells, and keeping everyone else alive.

Revenant’s got some interesting abilities. One of them is Necromancy, which basically gives a chance for enemies you kill to come back as your allies. It’s not super reliable, but when it works, it’s wild. Then there’s Summon Spirit — this lets you call up three spirit allies during battle, which helps a ton with pressure and distractions.

And the biggest one? Immortal March. This one literally keeps your teammates alive when they’re close to death, and sometimes it even revives them. It’s super clutch if your group is getting overwhelmed. But again, you’re fragile. Like, low-health fragile. So you’ve got to be really careful and play smart.

Tips That Might Help You Survive

So here are some tips if you’re thinking about trying out Revenant:

  • Stay behind the tanks and fighters. You don’t have the health to survive long in close-range combat.

  • Time your summons. Don’t just spam them — save them for when things get tense.

  • Keep an eye on your teammates’ health bars. That Immortal March ability won’t help if you use it too late.

  • And don’t stress if it doesn’t click right away. Revenant takes a little getting used to.

It’s not the easiest class, but once you figure it out, it’s kind of rewarding. Especially when you’re the reason your team survives a messy boss fight.

FAQ

You’ll need to beat a Nightlord during the Tricephalos Expedition, buy the Besmirched Frame relic from the Jar Merchant, and interact with a ghost near a painting in Roundtable Hold. Then you fight the Night Idol in Limveld, and if you win, you unlock Revenant.

It’s a support-heavy class with magic abilities like Necromancy and spirit summoning. It’s not meant for solo battles or tanking, but it shines in group fights.

Probably not. It’s a bit tricky to play and very fragile. It’s better for players who’ve already got a handle on Elden Ring’s combat and want something different.

Yes, but not like a main damage-dealer. Most of your value comes from helping others and using your summons. You can still land hits, but don’t expect to top the damage charts.
