Magic: The Gathering (MTG) has announced a partnership with the beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The new card set will be part of MTG’s Universes Beyond series and made available for player experience starting November 21, 2025, with previews at prerelease events, which will be held from November 14, through November 20.
The announcement was made as part of the MagicCon events in Chicago and Las Vegas. Among everything that players learned in regards to Avatar: The Last Airbender was a double-faced card called "Avatar Aang - Master of Elements,” illustrated by co-creator of Avatar: The Last Airbender Bryan Konietzko.
This card features Avatar Aang mastering the four elements of air, water, earth, and fire; parallel to where the Avatar left off in the original series. The entire card set will be Standard-legal, meaning players can use the cards in tournament play.
This signifies a new phase in the approach of MTG as Universes Beyond sets are now allowed in the core gameplay format.
While many players are excited to see Avatar in the MTG universe; some long-time players have reservations regarding pop culture infiltration into core traditional gameplay.
Still, there is a significant amount of interest from MTG players and Avatar adaptations similar to crossover, and they are obviously anticipating the collaboration's success.
They showed us Avatar Aang, too! 🔥

What’s Coming in the Set and What It Means for the Future
Along with Aang, the released set will include cards featuring other important characters in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe, such as Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Iroh.
Fans will also be able to expect Appa, the sky bison. Wizards of the Coast stated that the release will also include a variety of products like Collector Boosters, Commander decks, and prerelease kits.
At MagicCon Las Vegas, designers detailed a few examples of elemental mechanics, based on seeking to bend the elements of water, earth, fire, and air. The designer even used the card for Aang to show how these mechanics could work while playing the game.
Similarly, fans have already begun foreseeing matches using different "bending styles" with animated discussion across Reddit and other fan forums.
This Avatar-themed set will be the last Universes Beyond for the year. Including Edge of Eternities, the first of three 2025 crossover products released on August 1, Spider-Man, expected on September 26. The positive response to this collaboration could introduce additional projects with other franchises.
It will also be interesting to note a new Avatar animated movie, Seven Havens, is set to release in early 2026, so this crossover seems to be perfectly timed for that purpose.
