Nikon is entering the professional cinema camera market by announcing their new Nikon ZR, which is a full-frame mirrorless camera created with RED Digital Cinema. This partnership creates a unique product for Nikon and RED, takes purpose-built technology from Nikon and RED together to create their first Z CINEMA camera, with talent from both companies.

The ZR is the first camera in Nikon's brand new Z CINEMA line, which will help filmmakers and creators when looking for the best video production in a smaller footprint. The ZR uses the best from both companies to supply all of the possibilities for a cinema workflow.

Key Features and Specifications

6K Video Recording with RED R3D NE Codec: The ZR records internally up to 6K at 59.94p and uses the new R3D NE codec that has only been developed for Nikon cameras. This codec gives the editor a lot of latitude in post with ISO and white balance.

Full-Frame Sensor with 15+ Stops Dynamic Range: The ZR has a 24.5MP full-frame partially stacked CMOS sensor and provides over 15 stops for dynamic range. The ZR has 7.5 stops of in-camera stabilization, so, any shake in handheld motion should be stable.

Dual-Base ISO for Enhanced Low-Light Performance:The ZR has dual-base ISO options for 800 and 6400 performance, to work well in a variety of lighting situations. It means you will be able to get clean, noise-free images in outdoors on a sunny day, or indoors and low light.

Advanced Audio Capabilities: The ZR is the first camera in the world to offer 32-bit float audio recording both built-in and externally. The built-in audio uses Nokia's OZO Audio with five pickup pattern options for better audio capturing. Making it a great option for shooting on the fly, without additional gear.

Compact and Lightweight Design: Despite the power, the ZR is small, measuring 133 x 80.5 x 48.7 mm and weighing approximately 630 grams, making it easy to use. The weight is taken into consideration when shooting handheld, or with a gimbal, making it a good option for filmmakers looking for lightweight cameras to work with.

Versatile Lens Compatibility: The ZR has a Z-mount and the flange focal distance is 16 mm, which is the shortest flange distance for a full frame camera. This additional flexibility allows filmmakers to select from more lenses and also use other manufacturers lenses as long as you have a proper adapter.
