The revolution around the foldable phone is far from over and the leader of the pack is Samsung, being the most anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are on their way. Launching on July 9, 2024, at Samsung's Unpacked event these devices will push the boundaries of foldable phones with improvements like new advanced technology, new materials that are thinner, bigger displays and improvements that every tech lover would like to know about.

Pushing the Boundaries with a Slimmer Build

Wondering just how a phone like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7 stands out? Well, here's everything we have so far and lets dive in.

Thinnest Yet:

  • Fold 7 will measure approximately 4.2mm open and approximately 8.9mm closed folded down smaller than previous models and even other foldable devices like Vivo's X Fold 5.

Lightweight:

  • At just under 215g, the Fold 7 is also lighter to counteract its size issues while maximizing practicality.
  • The Z Flip 7 does not disappoint as Samsung's stylish clamshell foldable with an even slimmer and lighter design. It is not only lighter and slimmer; it has a larger cover display that is particularly useful as a daily driver.
  • Samsung's formable hinge technology has been refined to minimize the screen crease and folded gap while ensuring strength and beauty.

Bigger Screens, Better Experience

One of the most thrilling upgrades is the emphasis on larger and more capable screens on both models.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Display Specs:

External Display:

  • A 6.5-inch external display that is great for quick access and notifications.

Main Display:

  • Users will enjoy a spacious 8-inch inner display when expanded adding more capabilities for multitasking and streaming.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Display Specs:

Main Display:

  • A 6.9-inch foldable AMOLED display with rich colors in a small package.

Cover Display:

  • An even larger 4.1-inch cover display (up from 3.4) is able to provide more functionality without needing to open the phone.

Samsung has also moved from the under-display camera with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 to a hole-punch camera, offering an upgraded selfie and video call experience, as well as providing a better display for video calls.

Camera Marvels Beyond Expectations

Samsung is taking foldable cameras to a new level with some major upgrades.

  • 200 MP Sensor: The Fold 7 features the 200 MP main sensor of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, up from the Fold 6 with a measly 50 MP camera.
  • AI Imaging: The Fold 7 and the Flip 7 both contain Samsung's ProVisual Engine, an AI based tool that improves sharpness and stabilization and features smart zoom. If you're taking photos of stunning views or capturing low-light moments, you can expect great photos without stress with a Fold 7 or Flip 7.

Performance Under the Hood

Power and efficiency are critical components for devices like these, and Samsung is bringing its best.

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Chipset: Both models come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for the most current fast processing and multitasking.
  • Memory and Storage: Having 12 GB of RAM allows fast access to apps, games, and whatever else you want to throw at it.
  • Battery Life: The 4,400 mAh battery allows for 25W wired charging, while its new form factor may allow Samsung to use advanced battery cells that optimize battery power, which means all-day use despite being thinner.

With its excellent hardware and software package, able to work day-in-day-out, these foldable products are flagship devices with capabilities.

Smarter with AI

Samsung’s commitment to AI innovation shines in both the Fold 7 and Flip 7, introducing Galaxy AI technology within its improved One UI 8.
Expect features like:

  • Smarter Multitasking: Seamlessly switch between multiple apps with improved split-screen capabilities.
  • AI Camera Tools: Automatically adjust camera settings for optimal results in varying conditions.
  • Live Translations: Translate text in real-time directly from your camera or translated notifications.

Hidden Features & Firsts

Samsung has improved their foldable framework beyond just making it smaller. Here are some interesting upgrades you didn't read about in the Gifs, that make the Fold 7 and Flip 7 interesting!

  • S Pen compatibility: The Galaxy Z Fold 7 may now (at least, for the first time) support an S Pen, though likely without its own digitizer layer so it gets the flexibility and therefore thinness - similarly to the Fold 7.
  • More durability: Armor Aluminum frame with a glass-ceramic made back means your device is protected without weight.

Why the Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7 Matter in the Foldable Phone Market

Foldable phones no longer belong in a class of their own. With the likes of Vivo, Google, and Oppo now bringing their foldables to market alongside Samsung, the new devices from Samsung affirm its dominant position in this foldable category.

With slimmer foundations, a lot of the improvements feel AI driven, and a scientific camera installation, the Fold 7 and Flip 7 are true examples of how "foldables" are no longer experimental and have morphed into must-haves.

Is the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7 for You?

These foldable phones are genuine quantum leap! Regardless, whether you're a master multi-tasker and enjoy the versatility of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, or enjoy the cuteness of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Samsung's latest launch yielded a foldable to accommodate anyone.

Mark your calendars for July 9, 2024, and join the foldable future.

FAQ

Samsung will release both phones on July 9, 2025 at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York.

The Fold 7 will be slimmer and lighter with more power. The Fold 7 will come with an improved hinge and bigger display, will have better cameras (potentially up to 200MP), we anticipate there will be entirely new AI capabilities offered in conjunction with Galaxy AI.

Yes, but this may not involve using a digitizer layer this time. Samsung is said to use some kind of software magic to enable support for writing/drawing while not disrupting the thickness of the design.

Pricing has not been confirmed yet, but we expect the starting price to be similar to previous generation devices, with Fold 7 to run at a starting price around $1,799 and Flip 7 to be around $999. Pre-orders may have some additional credits or freebies.

The Flip 7 comes with a larger cover screen (approximately 4.1"), a smaller crease, and a number of Galaxy AI tools which can help with multitasking, camera, and voice control. The Flip 7 also weighs less and is less bulky.

Almost! Early renders and leaks show a much less vibrant crease and tighter hinge which will help folding feel more natural and ultimately smoother.

The Fold 7 has a 4,400mAh battery, and with optimum performance and less power consumption thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, we can expect day-long use under moderate use.

Rumors are starting to spread about a tri-fold phone (could be Galaxy Z Fold G or Z Tab Fold), but nothing is official about it. If it does happen, it will likely be later this year or early 2026.
