Features, Gameplay and What’s New
Skate will be an online always-on free to play title unlike the previous titles. The developers have confirmed that while not all features will be available at launch, the game will continue to grow through updates.
Key features at launch:
- An open-world city (Sna Vansterdamn) divided into four neighborhoods..
- Dynamic updates for new challenges, music, and events.
- Future patches will add new tricks, game modes, and leaderboards.
- Cross-play that allows the player to skate together regardless of what platform they are using.
The developers characterize Sna Vansterdamn as an evolving city built to change as the game grows in the future. Community feedback will factor into the development of those updates making sure the experience exceeds early-access as the changes come to life.

What the Launch Means for Players
The launch of Skate in early access is not just a resurgence of an old franchise. It returns the skating gameplay fans enjoyed in the late 2000s. New players have the opportunity to try out the growing game for free.
By embracing a live-service model, EA and Full Circle aim to keep the game relevant well beyond launch. The focus on community-driven updates suggests that the developers want players to feel directly involved in shaping Skate’s future.
Looking Ahead
If the regular updates and gameplay evolution come to fruition, Skate could not only return as a fan favorite, but also a staple of sports gaming. Nostalgia, accessibility and forward-looking design all make this relaunch one of EA's most ambitious efforts in years.
