Instagram New Repost Reel Feature: Instagram now officially lets you repost public Reels and feed posts. I feel like this is one of those “finally” features we all saw coming. It just went live starting August 6, 2025, and now you can share someone’s reel right onto your main feed and even keep it in a special “Reposts” tab on your profile.
How Does the Repost Feature Actually Work?
Here’s the deal:
- If you see a public reel or a post that you would like to repost, the repost icon, the two arrows in a square, will be below the content, simply tap it.
- You can leave a comment and a note in a thought bubble that resembles to your own speech bubble, scoopedit and then click save.
- When you save it, it will appear on the feeds of your followers like a normal post, and your followers will also see it as a normal post. This is done in conjunction with the original creator, and will also be available in your Reposts tab for your convenience.
In all honesty, this makes the process of resharing posts more streamlined as opposed to the bulk sharing and screenshotting that was done before.
How New Instagram Repost Feature Help Creators
The new Instagram repost feature is a huge upgrade for creators because it opens the door for them to reshare Reels and posts from other users back to their own profiles with proper attribution. Creators will not only be able to generate engagement by surfacing popular or relevant content to their followers, but this will also build collaboration and discovery for content. Creators no longer have to rely on third-party apps or screen-recording or doing something cuter when resharing content. They can maintain richer content quality and authenticity by repurposing someone else's content. Furthermore, the reposted content will sit separately in their profile under a new “Reposts” tab, which will inevitably help followers visually distinguish between original and reshared content, increasing transparency and trust.
What Else Did Instagram Roll Out?
But Instagram is aiming for a bigger fish than just creators. To target their intended users, Instagram also launched two additional features with the intent of striving for higher engagement from users:
1. Instagram Map
- Similar to Snap Map, but contained. Users can share their last active location if they agree to it.
- The location is only sent to your DMs and updates only while the app is being used, so it is not location tracking every moment.
- You control the privacy settings and can allow your users to share their location with, for example, only your Close Friends group. There are also parent settings for younger users.
2. Friends Tab In Reels
- An entirely new section that displays Reels of users who are and are not your Friends that they have created, liked, reposted, and commented on.
- Responses are possible, and Instagram also allows for a way to conceal one’s participants or mute the listening.
User Reactions: Excited, Confused, or Frustrated?
It’s been a bit of a mixed bag online. Some folks are pumped—finally, a repost button! Others are like, “Here we go again, copying TikTok, Twitter, Snapchat…”
One user on X tweeted:
“Instagram looked at Twitter and TikTok and said, Let me copy your homework real quick, but change the font...”

How Instagram Repost Feature Helps You
For content lovers, ease and efficiency is at an all-time high. Content label creators can now shuffle what they love through their feed while maintaining order and credit in a curated profile. This turns their profile into a mixtape of their vibe.
If you are a creator, this is a dream. This is free promotion at its finest. Your post has the potential to leap through networks effortlessly via reposts. That is undeniably empowering.

“Y’all, Instagram finally added reposts—why wasn’t this a thing before?”
It’s moments like this, when I’m scrolling and suddenly I spot something familiar but cleaner—it just feels... right? Like an overdue upgrade.
Such moments are the most delightful. I am on a scroll and then an all too familiar yet cleaner version of something pops up. It just makes sense… it feels right, like a long-awaited enhancement.
