Early Friday morning, a car carrying a group from Juria in Assam met with a terrible accident near Khetri on the outskirts of Guwahati. The car — reportedly headed to Shillong for a medical emergency — rammed into a stationary truck at a spot called Tetelia on the highway. Two people died on the spot, while several others in the car got seriously injured and were rushed to hospital.
Witnesses say the crash happened around 4:30 am, when visibility was poor due to thick morning fog. “We heard a loud bang and rushed out — the car had smashed into the stationary truck,” said a local resident.
Who Were In The Car — And What We Know So Far
The car — a Maruti Ertiga — had around seven to eight people inside. Among the dead were reportedly Imran Ali from Adhar Khunda (Juria) and Hafizuddin from Maheripar. At least four others, including Imran Ali's son, Ikramul Hussain, suffered serious injuries and are being treated at a nearby hospital.
Why It Happened: Fog, Speed — And A Parked Truck
Local residents and early reports point to dense morning fog as a key factor. It was still dark, visibility was minimal, and the Maruti Ertiga may have failed to spot the stationary truck in time.
Also, the fact that the truck was stationary — parked on or near the highway — raises questions. In many past accidents across Assam and North-East, poor lighting, inadequate signage, or improper parking of heavy vehicles have increased risk. This crash adds to that sad list.
Aftermath: Injuries, Hospitalisation & Questions Over Road Safety
With four or more people badly hurt and two dead, hospitals in Guwahati are now dealing with the fallout. Families are shocked, and local residents have expressed fears about how dangerous early-morning travel can be, especially under foggy conditions.
