Maserati teases a new supercar debuting July 10 at Goodwood. Could it be the next MC20? Here’s everything we know so far about its engine and design

Maserati is in the mix again! But this isn't just another cool-looking Italian sports car - it's a bigger deal. A new supercar is coming, officially, it will debut at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, on July 10! Although the brand hasn't specifically divulged the name, or what will make it special, they have offered enough to keep the enthusiasts, collectors and occasion fans interested. It might just be the peak in performance or a brand with heritage, or maybe the design – there's plenty to dissect.

Maserati Preparing a Big Reveal at Goodwood

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a venue that is known for big reveals and Maserati is checking that box for good reason. Maserati has already teased "a new chapter" for its high-performance lineup. They didn't tell us the name, but the verbiage - "sharper form, same unfiltered soul" - leads one to believe it may be a new version of the MC20, potentially a more track-focused version or more likely, a new version that commemorates the MC20.

Why you should start paying attention:

  • Maserati has not introduced a new supercar since the launch of the MC20 in 2020.
  • Goodwood aligns with the 100th anniversary of Maserati's Trident emblem. Nothing says "hey, I'm Maserati, watch what we do" quite like revealing a new supercar on a significant anniversary.
  • The teaser suggests fine-tuned cooling vents are featured for enhanced air flow, more sculpted sides, and other lightweight materials on display. Performance is the priority for whoever is behind this new offering.

Design Projections Suggest Evolution, Not Revolution

One of the first things we should note about the teaser images, is they don't give away too much. But if you look closely you will notice some clear and familiar elements; honeycomb cooling vents, a carbon fiber enclosure similar in obtrusive fashion to the MC20 (What's that glowing cow piece on top of the chassis?), and side scoops, now looking sharper, cleaner, and more passion alike, in both flow and attitude.

Here is what stood out:

  • Carbon fiber accents suggest a small weight reduction.
  • Sculpted intakes suggest better airflow management.
  • Silhouettes are still low and aggressive, suggesting MC DNA.

Although this isn't an absolute design revival but the optimizations appear clear and suggest a vehicle that drives, is better built or less heavy, more track revived but street legal.

What's Up With the E=MC² Teaser?

Maserati is not just teasing visuals, they are also toying with physics. Maserati's marketing will also include one of Einstein's formulas, E = mc2, as an ingenious play on the dimensions of performance engineering. This must indicate we are likely improve on some measure of efficiency on our mass-to power -perhaps, suggesting:

  • A lighter weight chassis
  • A better power to weight ratio
  • A more responsive driving encounter

This type of messaging appeals to both gearheads and performance purist alike. Maserati seems to infer: " this is not just about horsepower, but how we deliver energy, and how we control "

Expected Engine and Performance Specs

Though Maserati hasn't officially confirmed the powertrain, there is heavy implication that it will be the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 that is used in the MC20, which produces around 630 horsepower and comes standard with rear-wheel drive and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Predicted highlights are:

  • Rapid acceleration (0–60 mph in approx. 3 seconds)
  • High-performance cooling systems to support high speed usage
  • Potentially tweaked suspension for better corner handling

This whole package already generates excitement in the MC20 and if Maserati is able to further adjust this performance to get into that sweet spot between track focused aggression and daily driver usability, especially for U.S. buyers who want that raw power but additionally want comfort for everyday driving.

Celebrating 100 Years of the Trident

2025 is the full 100 years since the Trident first appeared on a Maserati car. The Trident, created by Mario Maserati in 1925, has since become the unofficial emblem of performance, style, elegance, and Italian automotive culture.

Why this is important:

  • This car could be a special edition that plays homage to the roots of the brand.
  • It demonstrates Maserati’s intent to have a lasting past with a unique present.
  • It might be a limited collector’s item.

With all of this in mind, what we will see next is not just what is next but rather, the connection between now and then.

FAQ

At 10 July Goodwood Festival, Maserati is teasing the new supercar, most likely an updated MC20 or special edition.

Yes, it is anticipated that Maserati will bring this vehicle to the U.S. market not long after the global launch.

Most probably yes. Maserati is expected to use its 3.0L twin-turbo V6 engine for this launch.

It insinuates a performance-oriented package and may hint at a better power to weight ratio or hybrid technologies.

From what was teased, this looks like an update or special version of the MC20, not a completely new platform.

The Trident of Maserati is 100 years old this year - first employed in 1925, and it is still central to the identity and role of the brand.

Although not been confirmed yet, it is possible that the deliveries begin late 2025 or early 2026.

Maserati will likely stream the reveal via live either on its own website or social media outlets on July 10.
