Never thought you'd see Michelin, the world-famous French tyre brand, making their top-end tyres right here in India? It's official now. Michelin has pulled the wraps off its very first made-in-India passenger car tyres, straight from their state-of-the-art Chennai plant.

Let’s get straight to the point — Michelin has invested ₹686 crore to set up a new manufacturing facility in Chennai. This is not simply a case of bigger numbers or new machines. The true impact is in the 200+ new job created in the region; an economic impact, as well as for some car fanatics to own the same world-class quality. 

Made-in-India Michelin Tyres for Premium Cars & SUVs 

Made-in-India tyres, such as the popular Primacy 5, Pilot Sport 5, and LTX series, will be offered for premium cars and SUVs. What makes this interesting? There will be tyres sizes ranging from 16 inches to 22 inches for any model of car (SUV) you can think of, from the compact SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet, to the premium brands like the Mercedes-AMG G63. While Michelin will still import some models, the main focus will be of premium products made in India.

Michelin-designed and manufactured tyres will start arriving to market in India by mid-2026, starting with the Primacy 5 line. Until then, dealers will continue to stock Michelin-branded tyres that are imported from abroad, as Michelin designs, tests, and certifies tyres of the new generation in India. The real shift? Lower prices for premium products and new tech for Indian car owners.
