Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, has introduced a new set of policies aimed at supporting families, boosting the economy, and appealing to voters disappointed by the current Labour government. His recent announcements are part of a stronger campaign strategy as his party gains momentum in polls.
Reform UK to Remove Two-Child Benefit Cap
Farage promised to scrap the two-child benefit cap, a rule that limits financial support for families with more than two children. He said this change would help parents manage the cost of living and encourage a rise in birth rates across the UK.
To fund this policy, Farage proposed cutting government spending on net-zero initiatives, asylum accommodation, and diversity programs, which he claims cost billions each year.
Winter Fuel Payments to Be Fully Restored
Reform UK also wants to bring back full winter fuel payments for pensioners. This move comes after recent cuts to these payments, which many elderly people rely on to heat their homes during colder months.
Tax Reforms for Married Couples
Another key promise is a transferable tax allowance for married couples. This would allow one partner to transfer part of their tax-free allowance to the other, helping to ease financial pressure and support stable families. Farage believes this will give children in two-parent households a better start in life.
Strong Criticism of Labour and Keir Starmer
Farage has been vocal in his criticism of Labour’s leader, Keir Starmer. He described Starmer as out of touch with ordinary British people and challenged him to a debate in a working men's club—a setting that reflects Farage’s focus on grassroots voters.
He also slammed the Labour government’s policies on immigration, the fishing industry, and international affairs, including the return of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, calling them weak and unpatriotic.
Reform UK Gains Support Ahead of Elections
Reform UK is gaining traction, with membership numbers now surpassing 235,000. Recent polls show the party polling above 30%, which signals growing interest from voters who are looking for alternatives to both Labour and the Conservatives.
In an Ipsos poll, Farage was ranked as the most trusted politician on immigration issues—a topic that remains a key concern for many UK citizens.
Controversial Advertisement Draws Criticism
Despite the rising support, the party is facing backlash over a controversial ad targeting Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar. The ad was criticized as misleading and racially insensitive by First Minister John Swinney, who called for it to be removed from social media platforms.
