One Nation just had a really solid result in the 2025 federal election. They’ve managed to double their Senate seats—from two to four—which is actually the best they’ve done since 2016. That’s kind of a big deal for them. Pauline Hanson’s still in the Senate until 2028, and Malcolm Roberts is sticking around too. But now they’re being joined by two new faces, which sort of shows the party’s message is still connecting with a chunk of voters out there.
Honestly, with how unpredictable politics can be, it’s surprising to see a smaller party like this gain ground again.
Meet the new senators
The two new senators are Warwick Stacey and Tyron Whitten.
-
Warwick Stacey is a former British Army guy, and he picked up the last Senate seat in New South Wales.
-
Tyron Whitten is a businessman, and he grabbed the final seat in Western Australia, mostly thanks to preference votes flowing his way.
They’re both new to federal politics, so people are curious to see what they’ll actually do in the Senate. From what they’ve said so far, they’re pretty in line with what One Nation usually talks about—tough on immigration, not a fan of the climate change stuff, and all about putting Australians first.
What this means for the Senate
With One Nation now holding four seats, they’re on the same level as the Nationals when it comes to Senate numbers. That’s kinda wild if you think about it. Here’s how the Senate looks after the election:
-
Labor: 28 seats
-
Coalition: 27 seats
-
Greens: 11 seats
-
One Nation: 4 seats
-
Crossbench/others: 6 seats
The interesting thing here is that Labor can now get laws passed with just the support of the Greens. They don’t really need to rely on other crossbenchers anymore. That makes things a bit easier for them—at least for now.
The party’s message still hitting home
Pauline Hanson said the win happened because of what she calls "commonsense policies." She’s been pretty vocal about how the Coalition isn’t as conservative as it used to be. She also took another swipe at the whole net-zero by 2050 goal, calling it a “scam.”
Warwick Stacey backed her up on that. He said high immigration needs to be reined in and the net-zero idea doesn’t make sense to him either. It’s clear One Nation’s sticking to its usual message, and honestly, it’s still getting attention from a lot of voters who feel the bigger parties aren’t listening to them.
