Marvel Studios is officially moving forward with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the hype could not be higher. On August 1st, 2025—a date shared with National Spider-Man Day—a teaser has been ignited, and it is an unprecedented response across the world wide web that has come about in part because of the short but impactful view of Tom Holland's brand new Spider-Man suit. However, more than the look of the costume is getting fans talking, though, it is the actual intent: not merely a continuation but complete reset.
In slightly less than ten seconds, Marvel provided fans with a brief glimpse of Holland's Spider-Man browsing social media in the exciting red-and black suit with raised black webbing like the classic comics, and ending the tease with a single cryptic line: "Something brand new is coming." As a studio famous for putting major clues into plain sight, it seems more than likely that this little phrasal tease was an acknowledgment that Peter Parker is getting a new birth, and this is only the beginning of Marvel's latest journey.
And fans have reason to think that something weird is coming.
Glasgow Turns Into New York as Suspicious Filming Details Leak
Filming is currently taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, which is being dressed up as New York City. Over the past few days, multiple streets in Glasgow, including Glassford and Virginia Street, have been covered in American flags, NYPD cars, and food trucks to recreate that familiar urban setting from Spider-Man. While it isn't particularly strange for filmmakers to produce work that is shot outside of the country, fans are confused as to why Spider-Man was chosen to film in Glasgow.
Local fans have reported seeing serious action setups - flipped vehicles, mysterious people in black tactical goggles. Some have reported even hearing preparations for stunts that involved going from roof to roof, and fighting on the street level. None of this has been confirmed by Marvel, but the secrecy of the production has created a heightened sense of curiosity.
Also of interest, is the rumored presence of Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. The Punisher is a character who uses brutal methods and is rather morally grey in his choices. Having The Punisher make an appearance in a Spider-Man movie would appear to create a tonal shift that possibly leans towards a darker or grittier portrayal of the friendly neighborhood hero. Some insiders believe this crossover may be Marvel's way of gradually introducing a mature storyline into the MCU that bridges into Daredevil: Born Again, and other street-level storylines for Phase Six.
What Makes Brand New Day Different?
There is a strong feeling that Brand New Day will present a significant tonal change from Tom Holland's previous Spider-Man trilogy. In fact, after the events of No Way Home leaves Peter Parker completely alone and forgotten, this story is poised to demonstrate a version of Spider-Man who is devoid of tech, fame, and support. For the very first time, Holland's Peter may bear a true resemblance to the struggling, self-sufficient teenager, as fans grew up reading about in the comics.
While Marvel has not provided any official plot information yet, early indications suggest that the movie will explore the same themes of identity, reinvention, and moral ambiguity. The title Brand New Day itself came from a controversial comic book storyline where Peter Parker made a deal to wipe away his past to protect loved ones—adding more fuel to the speculation that the MCU could be pulling darker and more personal elements from the comics.
With actors Zendaya and Jacob Batalon returning as MJ and Ned, respectively, we are not sure what their roles will be since both characters no longer remember Peter. Could Brand New Day serve as a soft reboot of the relationships of the franchise? That is one of the biggest questions fans are asking.
The film is going to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi), and the screenplay is from Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who worked on Holland's previous Spider-Man films. With a creative team already accustomed to Peter Parker's character arc, and now a different creative team, this movie should deliver both nostalgia and originality.

Marvel's announced a release date of July 31, 2026, made Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially a part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If Marvel's teaser intended to elicit head scratching, they certainly accomplished their goal. Between the interesting filming locations, shady mood, and the possibility of introducing The Punisher, this is more than just a Spider-Man sequel. This might be Marvel's most high-stakes Spidey narrative, to boot.
