Scheana Shay, a reality TV star from Vanderpump Rules, will soon divulge a piece of her life that she has been private about for some time. In March 2025, Shay will publish her memoir My Good Side, and in it she gives some context about her brief relationship with Actor Eddie Cibrian, which began when she was very young and did not believe he was married.
Shay, now 40, stated the relationship began in late 2006 when she was fresh out of college during her time trying to gain a name for herself in Los Angeles's entertaining scene. She says she met Cibrian at a cigar lounge where she was working. She states he seemed totally available there was no wedding ring, he did not mention a girlfriend, and nothing about him suggested differently. She then continued to explain that he was never going to take her to his house. He always wanted to meet in public or private venues.
It was not until someone at her workplace said to her that Cibrian was married that she began to question if her relationship was really the truth. When she asked Cibrian directly, Shay says he denied that claim and called the rumor "crazy". Shay took Cibrian's word for it, and their relationship continued for a while after his denial until she learned he was married to actress Brandi Glanville. At about the same time, Cibrian was also involved with singer LeAnn Rimes, whom he married in 2011, after he divorced Glanville.
Personal struggles behind closed doors
Shay's revelation is not just about the affair. In the memoir excerpts published by People and Entertainment Weekly, she relatoes some of the emotional and personal struggles she was dealing with during that period of her life. Between the end of high school and her adult life, Shay lost several family members - her grandparents, and her uncle. She also lost a close friend to a car accident. Shay says that these events triggered OCD and led to a battle with disordered eating.
She remarks that at the time of moving to Hollywood, her mental health was fragile, she had flimsy self-worth, was grieving, had anxiety and so on. When she met Cibrian, it wasn't just that he was handsome, but at that point, he was giving her the attention, the thoughtfulness, and he was making her feel seen when she was vulnerable and in need of that connection.
Now looking back, Shay reflects and admits she ignored the signs that something was not right. But at the time, with minimal social media and not many ways to substantiate someone's "story," she says it was easy to believe what was presented to her; she was "wildly in love" and didn't want to adopt doubt.
Why it matters now
Although this story originated nearly two decades ago, Shay's election to retell it now illustrates complexities around relationships and trust, especially back before social media provided clarity. Shay's self-reflections expose the emotional ramifications these experiences can take, particularly those shaped by grief, mental health matters, and misplaced trust.
Cibrian has yet to speak out publicly about the new remarks in Shay's memoir excerpts.
The rest of the story will be available in My Good Side, which comes out later this month. The book also talks about other areas of Shay's life, including her rise in reality television, and her ongoing mental health journey.
