Auburn is hosting Coastal Carolina for this year’s Super Regional round, and honestly, there’s been a lot of excitement around it. This is actually the first time Auburn’s had the chance to host a Super Regional at Plainsman Park, so the energy’s been high. Auburn is coming in strong after knocking out NC State in the regionals with an 11–1 win. Coastal Carolina’s not far behind though — they won the Conway Regional and came into this series with a solid 51–11 record.
The series is a best-of-three, and it kicked off Friday night. But of course, as luck would have it, the weather had other plans. Lightning in the area forced delays, which threw off the whole rhythm of things. Not the best way to start such a big matchup, but both teams are just rolling with it. These games matter a lot because whoever wins the series gets a ticket to the College World Series in Omaha. So yeah, the pressure’s pretty real.

A lot of folks are probably hearing about Coastal Carolina and wondering, wait, where even is that? So just to clear that up — Coastal Carolina University is in Conway, South Carolina. It’s a pretty small city, not too far from Myrtle Beach. The school’s been around since the '50s, and while it’s not as huge as some of the big-name universities, they’ve got a strong baseball program.
They actually won the College World Series back in 2016, so they’re not new to this. This year’s team has been solid all season, and even though Auburn’s a tough opponent, Coastal’s got experience under their belt. The players seem focused, and even though they’re on the road, they’ve looked confident heading into this series.
