Cristian Chivu is the new head coach. Yep, that Chivu. The one who held it down in defense for Inter between 2007 and 2014. It kinda makes sense, right? He knows the club, the culture, the fans. And now he’s signed on to lead the team until June 2027.
This move came after Simone Inzaghi decided to take a new gig over in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal. Not a huge shock, but still a big change for the team. So now, it’s Chivu’s turn to step up.
From youth coach to first team boss
Chivu’s not totally new to the sidelines. After hanging up his boots, he started coaching Inter’s Primavera (youth) team. And he actually did pretty well there—led them to a league title in 2022. That’s not nothing. He also had a short run with Parma more recently. That wasn’t exactly a dream job, but he helped them stay up, which was the goal. Three wins, seven draws, and just three losses in 13 games—not bad for a mid-season job, honestly.
So yeah, he's been working his way up, and now here we are.
Keeping the system steady
One thing Inter’s board clearly didn’t want to do was shake up the whole system. They’ve been playing with a back-three formation for years under Conte and Inzaghi, and it sounds like Chivu’s gonna stick with that setup too. Makes sense. No need to reinvent the wheel, especially with a big tournament coming up.
Chivu’s style might bring something fresh, but he’s expected to keep that same tactical shape that’s worked for them. It’s a smart move, keeping some consistency as the team adjusts to a new voice.
Big test coming fast: Club World Cup 2025
Now here’s the real challenge—Chivu’s first big job as manager will be leading Inter into the FIFA Club World Cup. The timing? Pretty soon. Their first match is on June 17, 2025, against Monterrey. It’s happening at the Rose Bowl Stadium in California, which is kinda wild if you think about it. Massive stage, a lot of eyes on him.
This tournament could really set the tone for his tenure. If they go deep—or even win it—it’ll give Chivu some serious credit early on.
