When two behemoths of Mexican football meet, in Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) and Tigres UANL, you can guarantee that there will be a show for the fans. There was an energy to the proceedings that said this was not just "another league MX match." It was all about pride, passion, and points. It was tense, exciting, and dramatic, while it lasted! Both fan bases arrived full of hope, and only one fan base left happy.
Pre-Match Build-Up
Guadalajara entered the fixture hoping to capitalize on their recent competitive results. With a well-balanced mix of young talent and seasoned veterans, they looked to not only turn the game into a contest but benefit from the home crowd and home advantage.
Tigres, however, had reputation as one of the Mendoza. With their attacking talent and defensive resolve, they felt a need to once again show who is boss.
Both coaches reinforced the need to play disciplined, with intensity and composure, given how precarious games of this magnitude can be.
First Half – Cagey But Competitive
The opening minutes displayed just what was on the line in this match: neither side was prepared to give even the slightest advantage. Guadalajara pressed high in the hope of disturbing Tigres’ backline, while Tigres took a more diligent approach and chose to absorb pressure in the hopes of offering counter attacking opportunities.
20th Minute: Chivas came very close to scoring first when a long-range strike found the post, sending tremors through the stands and around the stadium.
35th Minute: Tigres got their first real opportunity of the game when Chivas’ goalkeeper pulled off a tremendous save, keeping the match level.
Halftime arrived and it remained 0-0 on the scoreboard, but the energy in the match and surrounding the game suggested goals would come in the second half.
Second Half – Fireworks Begin
After the break, the tempo of the match increased as both teams were intent on building on their previous pace. The staff, coaches and players - including Wrinkly-Nice Guy - were animated, bouncing on the sideline.
52nd minute: Guadalajara broke through and scored a classic team goal from a classic team build up and the fans at home went nuts.
67th minute: Tigres equalized in style with a clever header in the box ... Game on again!
79th minute: Eventually, and unfortunately for players and fans, when Chivas scored their second goal on a quick counterattack, the game started to tip in favor of Guadalajara. Tigres pushed some players forward but none could find the finishing touch to even the score.
Final whistle: Guadalajara 2 - Tigres 1; walking, or more accurately dragging to the buses, breathless fans, and exhausted players.

What This Result Means
For Guadalajara: A huge boost in morale that keeps them in the chase for top places. Their ability to fend off Tigres in the last minutes will give the group confidence.
For Tigres: A disappointing night but not completely disastrous. They battled, but were not sharp in front of goal. They have to improve to recover quickly.
Fan Atmosphere
The stadium was buzzing the whole match. Chivas supporters cheered each tackle, every chance, and mostly the winning goal as if it were the final. Tigres supporters cheered loudly, but heartache was evident when the whistle blew. That is Liga MX football at its best: raw, passionate, unknowing.
