Jason Collins, a former NBA player who was the first openly gay athlete in a major U.S. sports league, has married his longtime partner, Brunson Green, who works as a film producer. They’ve been together for more than a decade. The couple officially tied the knot in a private and emotional ceremony in Austin, Texas, surrounded by loved ones and close friends.
Their relationship began in 2014, shortly after Collins made headlines by coming out publicly in a 2013 Sports Illustrated article. The two got engaged in 2023 at the Los Angeles Lakers' Pride Night — a fitting and symbolic moment given Collins’ role as a voice for inclusion in professional sports.
A Wedding Full of Love and Joy
The wedding wasn’t just romantic, it was also full of personality.
At the rehearsal dinner, things got fun when Texas drag performers Nadine Hughes and Alysha Pretty did a musical number. They sang “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin, which brought some light and cheerful energy to the evening. Some familiar faces were also at the event, including actress Octavia Spencer—who once worked with Brunson Green on The Help—and Jason Collins’ old NBA teammate, Richard Jefferson.
The support from both Hollywood and the sports world shows just how many lives the couple has touched.
Collins has often shared how much support he received after coming out. He once said that the positive reactions from fans, family, and fellow athletes made him feel proud and accepted — something he hopes future athletes can experience, too.
