There’s been a huge change at Rangers. A US-based group, led by Andrew Cavenagh and backed by the people behind the San Francisco 49ers (yep, the NFL team), has officially taken over the club. They now own 51% of Rangers, which basically means they’re in control. The club confirmed it, and honestly, this feels like one of those “big moment” kind of things. For a while now, fans have been hoping for new energy, more structure, and some real investment — and it looks like this deal might finally bring that.
Who’s Running the Show Now?
With this takeover, Andrew Cavenagh is stepping in as the new chairman, and Paraag Marathe, who’s already got experience with football and the 49ers, is now the vice-chairman. A few other names have joined the board too — Mark Taber, Andrew Clayton, and Gene Schneur. Some folks from the old board are stepping down, which isn’t really surprising. You usually see a shake-up like this when ownership changes. The new guys are saying all the right things so far — they’ve talked about respect for the club’s history and wanting to build something strong for the future. Now we just wait and see if they can really deliver.
They’re Bringing Money, But Also Expectations
The new owners have promised £20 million as their first move — money they say will go towards the squad and the club’s infrastructure. That’s not small change, especially for Scottish football. Fans are obviously excited, but cautious too. Like, it sounds great, but is it just talk? Or will we actually see smart transfers and some real progress? They’ve said they’re not just here to throw money around — they want to do things properly and sustainably. That’s encouraging, if it turns out to be true.
Rangers Football Club is pleased to announce that a consortium of investors, led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, has purchased a majority stake in the club, with approval from the Scottish FA.

What About a New Manager?
Another thing fans are watching closely is the manager situation. Ever since Philippe Clement left in February, there’s been a bit of a gap. Barry Ferguson has been holding things down as interim manager, but that’s clearly temporary. Names like Davide Ancelotti, Russell Martin, and Francesco Farioli are floating around as possible permanent options. It sounds like the board wants to take their time and find someone who fits the club’s long-term goals. Hopefully, we’ll hear something solid soon.
