If you watched the game between the Twins and the A’s on June 2, you probably felt like it was over before it even really got going. The Minnesota Twins came out swinging in the second inning and just completely took control. They scored six runs in that inning alone. After that, the Oakland Athletics just couldn’t catch up, no matter what they tried. The game ended 9–4 in favor of the Twins, and it really wasn’t that close most of the time.
Joe Ryan Held It Together Despite A's Attempted Comeback
Joe Ryan started for the Twins, and while he didn’t have a perfect night, he did what needed to be done. He gave up four runs, including a tough three-run homer by Lawrence Butler in the fourth. That could’ve been a momentum shift, but Ryan didn’t let things spiral. He got through five innings, gave his team a chance, and walked away with the win. On the other hand, Luis Severino—who started for Oakland—just didn’t have it. He gave up eight runs in six innings, and honestly, it looked rough.
Twins' Offense Just Kept Rolling
That second inning was wild. Ty France kicked things off with a big hit, then Byron Buxton brought someone home. Trevor Larnach and Brooks Lee added more, and it all just kept going. The A’s were probably just trying to stop the bleeding at that point. Even after they closed the gap a little bit later on, the Twins weren’t done. In the eighth, Brooks Lee came through again with an RBI single that kind of sealed the deal. It felt like the Twins just had all the answers.
Series Continues, but Momentum is Clearly with Minnesota
With this win, the Twins moved to 31–27 on the season. The Athletics dropped to 23–37. The series isn't over though. These two teams are meeting again on June 3. No word yet on who’s starting on the mound for either side, but based on how things went in this game, the Twins are definitely the ones riding high. The A’s will need to shake this one off fast if they want to bounce back.
