Once again, Pete Alonso demonstrated why Mets fans affectionately call him the "Polar Bear". In the Mets' 12–5 over the Detroit Tigers, Alonso had two solo home runs for fans of Citi Field to erupt in cheers that were still alive long after the game was over. As a team, the New York Mets had 17 hits — one of their better offensive performances in weeks. Rookie pitcher Nolan McLean continued to show flashes of promise with six innings of pitching shutout baseball, earning his fourth victory to keep his record at 4–0.
