What Happened During the Incident?
The attack happened between the villages of Dolus and Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron around 8:45 AM. The driver, a 35-year-old man from La Cotinière, suddenly rushed at people, hitting multiple pedestrians and cyclists. He then tried to set fire to his car but was quickly stopped by police.​

Arrest and Investigation
The man shouted “Allah Akbar” before being arrested. Police found bottles of gas in his car and believe he tried to ignite it. The authorities have opened an investigation for attempted murder, but they are not sure yet if it's a terrorist act.​

Emergency teams and police arrived quickly. Two helicopters took the seriously injured to the hospital in Poitiers. The local government and Prime Minister’s office sent officials to the scene.​
