Southall Fire in London: Latest Updates & Safety Alert

A huge fire sparked early in the morning in a retail warehouse on Bridge Road in Southall, West London. The building, which contains both a warehouse and shopping center, quickly became fully ablaze, sending thick, black smoke across the entire London skyline. Firefighters got their first call of the morning at 08:55 AM, and in response, they dispatched 15 fire engines and 100 firefighters. This is the largest fire response within the last few months.

How Did the London Fire Brigade Respond?

The London Fire Brigade received the call promptly, with teams coming in from Southall, Ealing, and Heston. There was a strong presence from the Fire Brigade and other authorities, which was instrumental in successfully containing the fire to a singular building. Fire crews used aerial fire engines to dump massive amounts of water directly from the top of the fire to the flames. Ambulance crews prepared to set up in a safe zone once police had secured the entire area and cleared it of civilians.

Are There Any Casualties or Injuries in Southall Fire?

Fire crews and police have finally completed their on-scene investigation, and no serious injuries or casualties have been identified. On-scene personnel informed us that customers and employees inside the shopping center evacuated quickly. Fire smoke was less of a concern, as it was safe for local hospitals to prepare for patients with ailments resulting from the surrounding fire smoke.

How Has the Southall Fire Affected Local Residents?

Due to the smoke and debris in the air, the remaining Southall residents urged London Fire Brigade to keep their windows and doors closed.

You could see the column of smoke for several miles from the fire, and air quality warnings are currently in place for Ellderly and sensitive groups. There are currently travel restrictions in and around Southall and Bridge Road, and multiple bus and and commuter routes have been diverted.

What is the Southall Fire Cause?

As it stands, the reason for the fire is still being assessed. According to initial data, it is believed that the fire started in a two-storey building that housed a commercial retail business along with it's warehouse. Previous fires in Southall have been linked to malfunctions in electrical systems or the use of, and legal possession of, fireworks. Investigators have not proven what the fire's Southall cause is. Outside Southall's fires have been linked to illegal possesion of fireworks.
