Gun Violence Continues to Rise Across the City
This latest shooting only adds to the growing number of gun violence in Chicago during this summer season. In recent weeks alone, the city has seen multiple high-profile shootings, including on public transit, in businesses, and even to police squad cars.
Officials say that many of these are still under investigation, and they do not appear to be easing the city's multi-faceted concerns about public safety.
They have stepped up patrols in certain neighborhoods and are working with community organizations in an effort to reduce violence. Officials with the city have also promised to increase program availability related to youth outreach and conflict intervention.
Though city officials say that long-term solutions take time to develop, in the meantime, they are asking residents to stay watchful and report suspicious activity to authorities, and to give their support to the city's efforts to ensure safety to its residents.
Chicago police say they will find those responsible for this shooting and bring justice to the victims and their family.
