Lithuania Takes Belarus to World Court Over Migrant Border Issue
Lithuania has officially filed a case against Belarus at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing its neighbor of intentionally pushing migrants across the border. According to Lithuania, Belarus arranged flights from the Middle East and then encouraged migrants to cross into EU territory illegally.
The legal action was announced on May 19, and it’s seen as part of a growing international concern over Belarus’s role in the migration crisis. So far, Belarusian authorities have not issued a response to these claims.
EU Looks to Raise Tariffs on Belarusian Products
The European Parliament is preparing to vote on new trade rules that would place higher tariffs on goods from Belarus and Russia. If passed, these changes will include a 6.5% duty on fertilizers and increased taxes on certain agricultural items.
The move aims to reduce Europe’s financial ties with both countries and address fears that trade revenues might be funding harmful activities or conflicts.
