On September 28, 2025, the passengers and crew of the Enchantment of the Seas, on her journey to Costa Maya, Mexico, were treated to a display of exemplary courage and humanity as the vessel was diverted to pick up 8-12 individuals stranded on a raft that was disintegrating and about to drown in the choppy waters of the Western Caribbean. Jeffrey Walker, the guest, posted on social media about the spectacular and heroic anti-storm action taken by the ship’s crew. Desperate castaways were on a raft about to disintegrate in a heavy storm, and the crew was launching a rescue boat.

The ship’s vacation cruise was changed and the ship was put exactly where the route provided the most stormy weather. The cruise ship was rerouted to the Western Caribbean, and on that day, in stormy weather, the ship was exactly where ‘help was needed.  The ship changed course to save lives and the crew and passengers and the world changed that day.  Even in the stormy face of nature, the world had the ship for set active and positive.  Wild videos of rescue were shared and praised the calm and professional actions of the crew.

How Many People Are There on Raft?

On September 28, 2025, 10 to 12 individuals were on the small raft when they were rescued by Royal Caribbean's Enchantment of the Seas cruise ship. While heading to Mexico and traveling west of Cuba, the ship's crew saw the raft and detected rescue signals. The crew members made the ship halt, dispatched a small boat to the raft, and carefully transferred everyone on board.

These people received food and water, clean clothes, and a medical examination after the rescue. The reason the cruise ship was able to assist the passengers was because the Enchantment of the Seas cruise ship had altered its route to avoid a storm. After the rescue, the Enchantment of the Seas cruise ship continued its journey and the rescued individuals were scheduled to disembark at the next port so they could return home before the ship reached its next docking point.

How Cruise Ship Rescues Work

The unfolding of rescue operations is marked by careful and precise steps. The crew first slows the ship down before launching a smaller boat to then approach the raft.

Maritime authorities are then notified so the rescued travelers, or castaways, can return home from the next port. Rescued individuals receive clean clothes, food, water, and medical attention immediately after disembarkation.

Passenger Experience

Every family unit on the voyage witnessed an unforgettable spectacle. Beams of light mesmerized children while the capsule's emotional survivors boarded the vessel and elderly. “Their raft was falling apart when help arrived,” said one witness. “The crew treated them with incredible care and kindness.”
