Stansted Airport Fire Triggers Evacuation & Flight Delays

Passengers at Stansted Airport were unexpectedly disrupted early Wednesday after a fire in the main terminal building. The fire resulted in hundreds of people evacuating while firefighters and airport personnel quickly worked to bring the situation under control.

The fire began at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the Escape Lounge in the departure hall. Alarms activated, and passengers and staff were safely moved outside the air terminal while fire personnel attended to the situation. No reports of injuries exist, and the fire was confirmed to have been contained in a relatively short period of time.

As soon as the fire alarms started, an evacuation took place without delay to move people out of the building quickly and safely. A spokesperson for Essex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire was contained to a lounge area and fully extinguished before it could spread further.

A spokesman for Stansted's operators indicated that while the situation with the fire caused inconvenience, the most important thing is that nobody has been hurt.
