Starting June 3, 2025, United Airlines is updating its check-in rules for passengers on domestic flights without checked luggage. Instead of the usual 30-minute deadline, travelers will now need to check in at least 45 minutes before takeoff. If you don’t meet this cut-off, you won’t be allowed to board your flight—even if you’re already at the airport.
This change is part of the airline’s effort to improve on-time departures and reduce delays at the gate. United says the extra 15 minutes will give their staff more time to handle last-minute issues and help ensure smoother boarding for everyone.
If you usually cut it close when traveling, it’s a good time to start arriving a little earlier than before.
More Comfort in the Skies: New Premium Upgrades Coming
United isn’t just making changes on the ground—they’re upgrading the in-flight experience too. The airline is rolling out new Polaris Studio Suites on its upcoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
These suites will offer:
-
Lie-flat double beds
-
Sliding doors for more privacy
-
Premium bedding and entertainment options
-
Sleek, modern interiors with more personal space
The goal is to attract more business and first-class travelers who want more comfort and privacy on long flights. It’s part of a broader trend among major U.S. airlines investing more in premium seating and luxury options.
United Expands Flights for Memorial Day Weekend
United also announced a big boost in its flight schedule. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the airline will operate more than 4,600 daily flights, its busiest schedule ever. The increase reflects strong travel demand heading into the summer season.
This added capacity includes both domestic and international routes, with popular destinations seeing more frequent service.
For passengers flying during peak times, United recommends checking your flight status regularly and arriving early to navigate busy airport crowds.
